Having actual standards makes it harder to indoctrinate kids into creationism and dominionism. Also, well-educated kids are more likely to realize how full of shit the GOP really is.

After watching this, my opinion of him went up. I'm surprised he could count to three.
The sad thing is I don't know if I'm joking.

I cannot watch the video because I'm at work, so I can't comment specifically on what he said. However, I do not find it an unreasonable position to say that the federal government should play no role in education, which, as the Constitution does not grant Congress this power, is a domain of the states. It's not so much anti-education but pro-federalism and pro-states rights, although knowing the Republicans it's probably also anti-education.

Go Cain!*
* Disclaimer, I think he's the only Republican that could actually make next year's election entertaining.

If those rights are best protected by a centralised federal government, rather than 50 state governments, they should be centralised.

Please, Bush was a much bigger idiot than this guy and he made it through two terms. That says way more about the voting public than either Bush or Rick Perry, and not in a good way. Given how often we seem to see fundies railing against the evil liberal indoctrination at schools it makes sens that the current bunch of extremely crazy fundie republican candidates want to get rid of schools. It is quite frightening really, and even more frightening when you think about how many people support the idea of eliminating schools (or at last blindly following the republicans.)

Whereas Congress explicitly has the power to regulate Commerce, so by extension an executive Commerce department would actually be kind of useful. Yet that would also be on Perry’s chopping block.
