Honestly, I'm a little lost on why we're attacking Fred too.

If you think I'm wrong, make an argument. You're not just wrong, you're completely missing the point. Nonsense. I offered a solution to a problem.

I accurately pointed out that unless something was done to deal with climate change, humanity would likely be seriously damaged or destroyed. The only way to do anything about climate change is to destroy conservatism- not compromise with, not add together and divide by two, only liberal political victory will do it. It's an indication of the derangement of the conservative movement that they believe the opposite; that, somehow, action on climate change, or expanding modern medicine to everyone, or legalising gay marriage, will end humankind. Even though that's both wrong and the opposite of true.

Even though that's both wrong and the opposite of true. It's less what you said, it's how you said it. These conservatives cannot be reasoned with, they cannot be convince, they cannot be compromised with in the long run. They can only be defeated. Pre-compromise is not acceptable- they must be defeated at the ballot-box, and their policy must be unilaterally smashed. Today is the most important political conflict of all time. If conservatives win, humanity itself may end. It is not acceptable to add together and divide by two. If you do that, you're a conservative and you want to end the world. "Cannot be reasoned with", "Can only be defeated", "if you do that, [...] you want to end the world" I'm inclined to agree with you, but that is some fucking scary rhetoric. You depict them as unconditional enemies of humanity, for fuck's sake!

You depict them as unconditional enemies of humanity, for fuck's sake! Problem is, the folks currently determining their agenda seem to be pretty keen on casting themselves as just that. I mean, recent political discourse has resembled less and less rational debate, and more and more a hostage negotiation. And it is largely on account of the folks that have been saying, “Screw the consequences! We’re gonna pass our agenda one way or the other!”

That, and by doing nothing to curb climate change they are dooming not just more and more of the ecosystem, it will eventually doom humanity. We can only live so long without the algae that ocean acidification will kill off, after all.
