From the Sci Fi Movie Hype, a review of All Star Batman and Robin

Even worse is Batman’s behavior towards Bruce Wayne’s ward and twelve-year-old sidekick Dick Grayson a.k.a. Robin. Shortly after his parents’ murder Batman rescues the kid from corrupt cops (i.e. kidnaps him) and leaves him alone in the Batcave for a few days without any food, implying that Grayson should eat live rats. When his faithful butler Alfred supplies the kid with a Quarter Pounder with cheese plus fries, they scuffle. “What the hell do you think you’re doing, Alfred?” Batman snarls. “That boy will not be reduced to eating rats, sir,” Alfred replies. “I was,” Batman retorts.

What the actual fuck?

The anti-Vietnam protestors* were disproportionately veterans, disproportionately minorities (African-Americans, women), largely poor, mostly ill-educated, or manufacturing workers. They were also mostly youngish-middle aged. I think OWS might be a little better-educated, a little more wealthy, whiter, less millitary and a little older.

*Not sure about moratorium specifically.

OK, a rather different demographic then. I believe this only strengthens my point against LHM's contention that the OWS movement is in any way aping the Vietnam Moratorium movement.

This amuses the shit out of me.

Maybe the Sin City graphic novelist was just pissed that Anonymous took rival Alan Moore‘s V for Vendetta Guy Fawkes mask as their logo instead of one his images, but Frank Miller‘s rant on his website regarding Occupy Wall Street was as brutal as it was poorly-timed. (Mr. Miller wrote his rant exactly one week before the raids on Zuccotti Park.) Turns out The Dark Knight isn’t on the side of 99% after all.

So, I read up on Sin City & you guys were not kidding. Every "strong" female character was centered around sex--heroines were prostitutes, antagonists were seductresses. I'm not implying a sex worker can't be a strong character, I'm implying that it's usually not contingent on that.

For a long time I assumed that the apparent misogynism in the Sin City was a result of a dystopic world where women weren't given a chance to be independent and active unless they abandoned the society like the whores of the Old Town had done. I interpreted the fact that these women were forced to be whores to survive was an expression of how fucked up the world is. Then I read up on Miller and his other works and realized that it's the author who is fucked up.

Yeah, that first interpretation is one of the reasons I would have allowed myself to buy Sin City. Now, I would rather not support Miller in any way.

'Cause they need people coming there in order to support themselves? I've only ever seen the movie, but Old Town seemed to basically be wall to wall prostitution and nothing else illegal business wise.

They run it, so even if they decide to base their economy around prostitution, surely they don't all have to.

Really, I don't see why anyone would have to, they had enough control over Old Town to kick out all of the pimps & take over, they could do pretty much anything with it.

Somehow, I just find it unrealistic that 100% of prostitutes want to stay as prostitutes.
