OK, let's compare the two most prominent political movements of the moment, the Tea Party and the Occupy Wall Street!
"Grass Roots" status:
TP: Claims to be grass roots, but was, in reality, begun by Freedomworks, Dick Armey's Political Action Committee.
OWS: Near spontaneous beginning that has quickly spread, without organization or central leadership, to hundreds of cities around the country and the world.
Winner: OWS is the actual grass roots movement.
Beltway Outsider status:
TP: While the TP has successfully used its influence to place individuals in political office, these individuals are, nearly universally, already established political figures who have simply re-branded themselves with the Tea Party label to take advantage of the political climate.
OWS: The OWS movement lacks any true political representation due to the alienating nature of its message on established political figures. While the Democratic Party is searching desperately to find an opportunity to turn the OWS to its advantage, the movement is actively resisting such attempts.
Winner: OWS. The TP in Washington is simply old-school, Reagan-era, conservative politics with a new name and a fancy new paint job.
There's the first two categories, and the OWS is winning 2-0.
Here are the other categories, anyone care to take a stab at them?
"Average American" status
Financial Backing status
Special Interest Bitch status
Constitutional Champion status
Education Credentials status
Philosophical Credibility status
Historical Perspective status
