I don't know what is worse, that the republican candidates don't even try to pretend to be secular and sane, or that them acting like complete nutters actually gathers support for them. Honestly there should be basic logic and political understanding tests before someone is allowed to vote.

And also, those past actions were only to prevent blacks from voting. This wouldn't be the case here. I'm not saying I agree with it, but it's pretty stupid to compare the two.

The comparison is no worse than the idea it is being attacked. All voter suppression is bad. The second you condone even one instance you're giving acquiescence to voter suppression as a whole. Who's to decide what makes someone "smart enough" or "politically astute" enough? Which metric should be used?
