Gotta say that was a surprise. Well done Bligh! Now you get my first preference vote, instead of the Greens.
Edit: also, please take note of this. You can get many, many votes if you do even one thing to please your base. See all those people voting Greens every election? That's your problem right there.

It is also all that an individual state can do, Marriage being a power reserved to the Commonwealth.

It is also all that an individual state can do, Marriage being a power reserved to the Commonwealth. Even more beautifully, it puts a huge amount of pressure on the feds to legalise marriage. Claps to the state ALP.

So, how many other states in Australia allow gay marriage or civil unions? I want to know this before you get on your collective high horses...

Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland have civil unions or relationship registries. South Australia and Western Australia recognises same-sex unions as de facto relationships, and Tasmania has this weird system where you need to register for both significant relationships (long-term cohabitation) and caring relationships (making decisions if the other can't) but they also recognise gay marriages made elsewhere. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gay_marriage_in_Australia

Yes, how dare a country that's not the USA have a success. Well maybe if they didn't always do it BEFORE the USA, I wouldn't be so angry? Then go yell at the people who slow are slowing us down instead of bitching about the nation making progress. Putting other countries down doesn't make the US better, it only serves to make them worse.

Yes, how dare a country that's not the USA have a success. Well maybe if they didn't always do it BEFORE the USA, I wouldn't be so angry? Maybe you should stop bitching about that particular nation accomplishing something before the USA and instead rejoice that beneficial progress has been made for same-sex couples in general.
