I think the thing that stands out the most for me is that this happened before last year, and nothing was done to change what is an assedly stupid way of operating. Seriously this story reads like something out of the book "Jennifer government" where all the emergency services are for profit corporations. What happened to America, who the hell thought this was a good idea in the first place. Who seriously believes that people might stop paying if the fire department steps in to save someones house is the best plan? Who was the person who received the 911 call and then double checked the address with the payment before having the fire department actually put out the fire? If I was a fire department official, I would have said: "screw the man." and then promptly started helping that family put out the fire. I would rather be fired for doing what is right, than stand there with the guilt of watching someones house burn down and know I could have stopped it.
