Wow, Captain Obvious put this way better than I could've ever done. That's exactly what I believe. Exalt, I'm gonna be saving that one (and will give due credit if I use it). Why thank you, I tend to lurk around here and not post too much. It's nice to see my contributions being appreciated.

Funny--when I was a Christian I went the opposite route: extreme guilt-tripping.
When everything is a sin, you either live in denial of personal responsibility, or spend all your time feeling like a worthless sack of shit.
Guess why I'm no longer Catholic.

Because you walked in on the parish priest and Mother Superior for your school going at it like two wolves in heat? ;D

Because your taught in church that's the way it HAS to be. Years of hearing people saying "to be good, you have to be Christian, you have to convert the non-believers so they can be good as well" will taint anyone's view of the world. The concept of someone being good without God is lost when such a big deal is made about finding God and becoming a truly good person. It's ridiculous and silly and sad, but such is the state of things...

I hate that too. That has to be my pet peeve with these idiots. What they are basically telling me is that because god told them not to rape and kill and steal and lie, they don't. And if god never drafted that memo, they would be doing these things. They ask how I can be a good person without christ in my life. I answer that if you can't be a good person without christ in your life, then you will not be a good person with the sorry SOB. That's also a pet peeve of mine, and I quickly distance myself from those people because they scare the shit out of me. Another issue is that religion caused people to fly 747's into buildings and to murder innocent people just passing through on the way to California.

However, a former-Catholic FWB who practices Paganism and seems to be a lot less neurotic than you or any Christian you've ever met, can work wonders.
