So because a handful of mormons arent pathetic bigots it changes the FACT that the leaders of the church ordered their members to treat gays like shit? okay...
Maybe the LDS church should take phelp's spot, he's a joke, they've actually succeeded in their goals of taking rights away from gays.

Most prominent, pervasive in society, has the greatest influence or the deadliest rhetoric. Under this criteria I'm going to have to agree with the people that say either move Fred Phelps to lower on the list or remove him. Honestly people just view him as a crazy person and has no real influence anymore. If we ignore him, he'll go away.

Yeah, I'm still not sure I'd have him in the top 10. his soldier protests have destroyed much, if not all, of his credibility with the conservative kill-a-fag-and-god-smiles crowd. And in doing so, his message doesn't receive the same importance as he would wish. In short, the newness has worn off and now people aren't paying as much attention to him. He's still good for laughs but I think he's not as much of a threat as he was. I think even before he started the soldier protests, he was viewed as loon by "mainstream fundies", if there is such a thing. I know some normal, otherwise very nice people who have told me that while they don't agree with Phelps' methods, they certainly understand where he is coming from. They also think that the Earth is ten thousand years old. This scares me.

8.) Michael Savage: A former liberal who once went swimming nude with beat poet Allen Ginsberg. Now the third most popular conservative radio personality and a virulent racist and homophobe, Savage (formerly Michael Weiner) frequently denies that he cares about what homosexuals do in the bedroom, yet accuses them of bringing down America as well as the rest of Western civilization. Wished AIDS on a caller on national television. Says the attempts to legalize same-sex marriage are part of a Marxist conspiracy. I'm not surprised he changed his name. Not only is "Savage" dangerously appropriate in his case--it's hard to get people to take you seriously when your last name sounds like "Whiner." Unfortunately, it also creates a mental association with awesome sex advice columnist Dan Savage.
