The survivors of the gay marriage debate called the war ‘Judgment Day.’ They lived only to face a new nightmare, the war against the church nurseries:
No one can disagree with Zsuzsanna and still be respected afterword. The only reason anyone would ever lock horns with her over childcare is if they’re ignorant.
So, kids who spend an hour a week at the church nursery are likely to contract the disfiguring disease of leprosy, then die and go to hell for want of spiritual tutelage. Indeed, who knows where Zsuzsanna's kids would be without exposure to their dad shrieking about how real men piss standing up.
Wait, no…
It’s actually important that kids get dirty and swap bugs during social interaction. It helps build their immune systems (in the same way as exposure to kids from different cultures and backgrounds, and to the accompanying ethical dilemmas, is an effective way to learn social skills and build character. Not surprisingly, Zsuzsanna home-schools.)
Proper supervision is the best way to avoid bullying and other dangerous situations within a nursery. Likewise, the accidental swapping of babies’ bottles can be avoided by double-checking names against labels. But since Zsuzsanna’s opposition to church nurseries – in fact, to nurseries or daycare centers or day-homes of any kind – has very little to do with child safety, she won’t let these niggling little facts get in the way of her opinions.
Good! That’s fewer colds for them to catch later.
Background checks are worthless because they can’t predict future perverted behavior. In fact, the only way to protect kids against perverts is by allowing them to be alone only with immediate family.
Wait, no…
“80% of all child abusers are the father, foster father, stepfather or another relative or close family friend of the victim.”
It is a big stretch to claim that kids are safer in a nursery with multiple caregivers than at home with their dads; after all, most guys are not child molesters – but if “background checks are worthless” because they don’t predict future behavior, then Zsuzsanna should keep a close tab on her husband. He sees perverts hiding in so many corners that I can’t help but wonder what sorts of dark urges he himself is suppressing.
(I’m only sort of joking on this point: there’s something seriously wrong with a guy who thinks, I shit you not, that every single male gynecologist on the planet is a pervert.)
Um, yeah. Since people are not psychic, that’s pretty much all a background check can do. But the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior.
You’d better watch all your kids, then, because a child molester’s first victim is usually someone he or she knows. Only ten percent are strangers. Older kids may even abuse younger siblings. There’s only one solution: buy ankle bracelets for them all, and make sure two siblings are never alone in a room together.
…or belong to your immediate family! I mean, if you’re going to be ridiculously paranoid (and undeservedly condescending) about this, start where the stats say the most trouble can occur.
If your church draws tithes from direct deposit, then a lot of parishioners are already trusting you with a couple of the biggies on that list. Have you run a background check on the church accountant? If so, big deal. All that means is that he hasn’t embezzled money from anyone else yet.
For those readers who think nurseries are a must, and without them church would be a circus, this post will do little to convince them otherwise because they are willingly ignorant, and inconsiderate of the fact that children are the most important audience.

Keeping children out of the service and leaving them in a nursery is not only detrimental to their spiritual growth, but also their physical health. Nurseries are like leper colonies, and any and all sickness will be passed around as toys (and the accompanying body fluids) are freely shared.

In a small church, there may only be one nursery, in which case older kids could hurt younger children by throwing toys, biting/hitting them, or accidentally stepping on the little ones - I have seen all of these. A baby might accidentally be given the bottle of another child, something that even with labeled bottles happens all the time.

There is a prevailing notion that young children get sick a lot and that that's just the way it is. According to statistics, preschool age children get about 9 colds per year.
Good! That’s fewer colds for them to catch later.
Then there is the question of safety. Churches draw freaks like moths are drawn to light. People are trusting, courteous, and easy targets. How can anyone know that the sweet nursery worker that they just handed their child off to is not a predator? I get so tired of hearing about background checks. They are 100% worthless.

All a background check says it that someone has never been convicted of a crime. Maybe they just have never committed one yet?
Um, yeah. Since people are not psychic, that’s pretty much all a background check can do. But the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior.
Every child molester had a clean record at one time - do you want your child to be the first victim?

I am not saying that you should go around suspecting everyone, I am saying you should not go around blindly trusting anyone just because they happen to go to your church.
…or belong to your immediate family! I mean, if you’re going to be ridiculously paranoid (and undeservedly condescending) about this, start where the stats say the most trouble can occur.
Would you trust that same person at church with all your personal banking information, your wallet, the keys to your house and car, and all your money in cash, to do with it as they saw fit? Hardly. To me, my children are worth so much more than all that together.
