OK, my summer holiday is officially here and I find myself with actual (GASP!) free time on my hands.
I need a new game for my PC; I'm getting tired of everything I have.
So here's the challenge! Reccomend for the Sandman a new game to obsess over this summer! I have a high-end PC and my favorite games of all time are the Civ series, Rollercoaster Tycoon, Pirates!, City of Heroes, and World of Warcraft.
Anyone got any reccomendations? Or am I going to have to go back to Minesweeper?

Well, if you are into the strategy stuff, I suggest either Medieval 2: Total War or the latest Empire: Total War (which does the Napoleonic era, American Civil war, etc). Epic real-time battles and a turn-based campaign map, sort of thing.
RPG-side, there's always Fallout 3, but I haven't been interested much in that genre lately, so I may be out of touch with anything else.
As for MMO's, I'm at the moment pretty biased towards EVE Online, so I won't say anything more on this genre.

Wll, if you like RPGs, there's always the Elder Scrolls series and Fable, not to mention The Witcher.

Hearts of iron 2 with both expansions. Best WWII grand strategy I've ever played and it's quite cheap nowadays. There are also 3 other games like it made by the same company (paradox) that cover differant historical eras which I haven't played but are supposed to be just as awesome. The only thing about it that pisses me off is that it's way to politically correct (Germany uses t 2nd reich flag because the developer doesn't want to offend anyone with swastikas (I could rant for pages on that topic)). Gameplay-wise though, it's a freaking awesome game, play it!

The best PC games I've played recently have been Spore and Half-Life 2/Portal. A word about Half-Life 2 - even though it's got a great story and it's a lot of fun, it's also very violent, often gruesome, and the headcrab zombies (image is linked because it's fairly disturbing) scared the crap out of me multiple times. Spore, on the other hand, is tons of fun. LOL WUT?

If you like FPS can't go wrong with a little Half-Life, Team Fortress or Left 4 Dead.

If you're feeling cheap and want some good freeware, I recommend S4.

Also, if you want some freeware and have a masochistic streak, you can't go wrong with I Wanna Be The Guy!
(Thanks for suggesting HL2! I love that game ever so much!)

Haha. I made a giant walking carnivorous carrot once. Played by James Arness, no doubt. (A cookie to the first one who gets the reference!) ~David D.G.

Oh crap! I forgot to mention Hellgate London! It's an RPG with an optional multiplayer taking place in dystopian future London.
