This was a depressing ass movie. I've been urged by my friend to watch it so last night I picked it up. Its was in the comedy section and one of the blurbs said it was hilarious. Even for dark humor there wasn't much. It was a great movie, don't get me wrong but I just can't see it as a comedy. Am I missing something?

I think it depends on what you find funny, much like most things. I don't remember very much from the movie, but I remember more from the book. I remember in one scene, a character who had lost his leg due to heroin use stood on the street corner begging for money (for more drugs, of course). He had a sign that said he lost his leg during the war and needed money for food, and a little old lady came up to him and gave him her last bit of cash because her son had died in that war. I thought that was pretty hilarious, in a totally messed up way.
The humor in the book, I think, was much like that. It wasn't comic, laugh out loud funny. More like, "I can't believe that just happened" funny. Movie was pretty much the same way, from what I remember.

I find some weird stuff funny but once the baby died it was like a kick in the stomach for the rest. Never read the book yet.

I saw it and enjoyed it... had to turn on the captions so I could better understand the dialogue.
I did laugh at the "worst toilet in Scotland" scene...

The book is better. The characters were a little more likable in it, which makes some of events funnier. The worst toilet in Scotland scene is funny in the book, as is the description of the guy who soils his girlfriends sheets. I didn't have any issue understanding people in the movie, but then I saw the movie right after I finished reading the book. Which is written totally in dialect/slang.

It's a great book, but too many scenes were cut for the movie...
They both have the same plot-line, but the book is more episodic. You can jump around in it and still enjoy it.

It put me off drugs, at least.
And I honestly thought this thread was going to be about Anoraks.
