Isn't that sad? I mean yeah the guy was a bit off his rocker, but he was still a pop icon. Same with Farrah Fawcett, minus the off the rocker part.

The Washington D.C. area Top 40 99.5 station is having their memorial broadcast for Michael Jackson right now. If you want to stream it you can go here They're taking calls from people, and playing a lot of his old music. I know this hit my mom pretty hard. She grew up with his music, and watched the Jackson 5 cartoons when she was growing up. She is still sitting on her computer.

Can't work up any emotion over this one. As for being a pop icon, thus far there have been 392,514 pop icons, of whom three were worth the powder to blow them to hell. Michael Jackson wasn't one of the three.

Didn't 99.5 used to be WHFS which played alt rock?

Whoa. Shocked. It's killing the internet, btw. Twitter, LJ, most gossip cites are slow or down.

Didn't 99.5 used to be WHFS which played alt rock? I don't know, I've only lived in the area for 7 years. The whole time I've been here it's been the top 40 station

I haven't lived in the area since 89, so might be remembering wrong.

It seems like a lot of celebrities are dying lately.

As much as it seems I'm supposed to react emotionally to this, I can't say that I really feel all that torn up. I'm certainly sorry that he's dead and I feel for his survivors and fans, but I didn't know him personally and never really listened to his music, so I'm not really feeling much here.

I am ... in shock. Really.
I am very saddened to hear this as I grew up in the Bad generation and I idolized this man, flaws or not.
He had a hard life... he had people making stories about him, he was ridiculed for being something that we all probably wish that we could be... a true individual. No matter how people talked about how weird he was or what he did, he never went out of his way to change himself because people wanted him to be a certain image.
I loved him for his eccentricity, his creativity and his mind. He was a meek soul, he was loving and he cared about the most vulnerable of all... children. I don't think he was a pedophile, I never have. I think that those that accused him of such were just out for his money and I believe that there was documentation of that.
Overall, a very creative and awesome man just pass over and I hope that he finds his peace in the next life.

Very sad news. Also, very surprising, at least to me. I didn't expect him to die so young. I am and always will be a fan of his music (the early stuff) even though I disliked him as a person. Didn't 99.5 used to be WHFS which played alt rock? 99.1 was WHFS before is was taken off the air.

Oh dear. I hope people will remember him for "Thriller" or "Smooth Criminal."

This was a complete shocker to me. Although he was the subject of many jokes for me in the past, I realize that he did indeed make many people happy and I deeply respect that. Poor Farrah Fawcett, she's going to be completely overshadowed by Jackson's death. RIP to the both of them.
This probably isn't the best time for humor, but wouldn't it be crazy if this all turned out to be a publicity stunt and that he was still alive? I can't wait to see all of the CTSTDT quotes roll in...
