Oi...I think I have been tainted just by seeing the quotes on this forum.

It really saddens me that there are so many out there who despise me and others like me simply because of the way I was born.

Eeh, don't let it bother ya. Most people won't go within 20 meters of these racist fucks, so they'll eventually inbreed so much that their genes are no longer able to produce fertile offspring, and they'll die off nice and quietly.

Truth be told, this kind of foaming-at-the-mouth racism is better than the subtle, casual kind we see from the right-wing these days. It's more easily marginalized.

Some of you may have come across the Church Sign Generator made by Ryland Sanders, or others that he had made (a complete listing is over at says-it.com). I used to be a semi-regular over at his personal site, which had a group of people who'd just discuss politics or religion or whatever, and occasionally Ryland would put up some amusing e-mail or such that he'd gotten.
At one point he found out that Stormfront, Niggermania, and maybe another two or three such racist sites were clicking over to his generators and using them to make stupid shit. Ryland's a good guy, but he's also a smart guy, so he set up the site such that it placed a cookie if you clicked over from any of those sites and changed the result of whatever you'd generated to something like "Racism is not cool. Quit being a jackoff." Naturally this caused much upset among the fools affected, and so he started to get a fair bit of hatemail.
Some of it he posted. Occasionally he got the laughably ignorant ones that talked about first amendment rights and other things that did not even begin to apply, and eventually it came about that some of the people from Niggermania came over to speak their piece. I can't recall if they just came over or if they'd been invited to speak their piece, but it naturally turned into a very long, confusing argument with numerous trails and threads and dead ends.
I didn't contribute much. Maybe I had said one or two things, but really there's nothing to be said. Others did, however, with splendid dexterity, though of course there is no changing the minds of such people using words (or sometimes at all). After a day or two the thread was effectively locked and the racists bundled off. Good riddance. They did not, except very occasionally, darken our doorstep again.
The staggering thing is that they were basically nice people. Or perhaps I should say they were basically normal people. They had regular jobs, did regular things, took care of their dogs or their cats, and otherwise did the sort of things that any of us would do. They were just completely fucking evil. Testimony taken and experiments done in the wake of the Holocaust suggest that those who took part in the wholesale extermination of an entire ethnicity were themselves just normal people, and that otherwise normal people can be made to do terrible things (the Milgram experiment, for instance). But it's different, and chilling, just reading about it in the abstract versus seeing it first hand.
Anyway, my thoughts on the matter, there they are.

Scarier than the content itself, is the never-ending list of names of the people who are either "online now" or visited the site at some point during the day.

You know, I don't particularly care if Martin Luther King had illicit affairs or drank or if he associated with Communists. Racists always use these things to attack MLK and try to say that because of this he shouldn't be considered a hero (I mean aside from the fact that he was black and struggled for civil rights, that is). But his goal was morally correct and he was only human. I liked what Christopher Hitchens wrote in God is Not Great: "This does not in the least diminish his standing as a great preacher, any more than does the fact that he was a mammal like the rest of us, and probably plagiarized his doctoral dissertation, and had a notorious fondness for booze and for women a good deal younger than his wife. He spent the remainder of his last evening in orgiastic dissipation, for which I don’t blame him. (These things, which of course disturb the faithful, are rather encouraging in that they show that a high more character is not a precondition for great moral accomplishments.)"

The name of the site would have deterred me from a visit.

It's because racists and fundies and the like are utterly incapable of figuring out what, exactly, the argument is. It doesn't matter that MLK did bad things in his life. It doesn't matter who or what Darwin believed. Nobody worships Darwin, God dammit! If Hitler had developed the Theory of Evolution, it would still be no less true than if Darwin created it. Hell, if Satan himself had done it, it would still be true.

Interesting. There are quite a few idiots here but a number of the people on that website seem quite well-read and don't fit the stereotype of the inbred redneck.

...don't fit the stereotype of the inbred redneck. The scariest (and, IMO, most dangerous) ones don't.
