I'm sure they do that here in Norther Florida as well as we're the corner of the Bible belt. I'm sure they'd freak if they knew there are both a Bai hai (I know I just butchered that, sorry) and a Buddhist temple in the city.

Anyone else amused that the church is named "Dove World Outreach Center"? They seem largely unaware of the world and certainly unwilling to reach out to it.

Why.......why is it always Florida!? Because it's Redneck Peninsula, yo! You guys have Redneck Cancun...I mean, Panama City Beach. Don't feel bad. I live in Georgia. It's not much better. It may even be worse. In regards to the sign, I love how the fundies at Crapture Ready are sending the church all of these encouraging letters. Leave it to those assholes to praise intolerance. If there had been a church that opened its doors to HIV positive gay men they'd be sending hate mail. Compassion is met with condemnation while hatred is met with praise. What's even more hilarious is that the article says that the pastor of that church put the sign up because Islam is a "religion of hate and violence" and yet the president of Islam on Campus of UF very kindly supported the church's freedom of speech, but was concerned that the sign would not promote civil discourse and unity. If Islam was a religion of violence, that church would have been burned to the ground by now. Can you imagine the outrage if a local Mosque had a huge sign out front that read, "Christians worship Satan!"? There would be ham hocks thrown through the doors, angry protests, perhaps some vandalism. |

Why.......why is it always Florida!? Elderly, and thus overly religious, purists from the colder states decide they want to sweat year-round instead of freeze. Thus Florida is Old-Fart capital of the US, and with this title comes the requisite title of Most-Fucking-Prudish state. My apologies to any older people who aren't batshit insane; I only know what I've encountered, and it hasn't been pretty. |
