Do we really need a section for every stupid thing said on the internet? Are we really that desperate for quotes?

It's all about organization. Wingnuttery in it's own section, so there are no complaints about "HEY this isn't a fundie! Where's the religion!?" Sexists, and homophobes too. This way one can go to the section for their stupid quotes of the day from the specific section they want to headdesk over.

How about we focus more on making sure only real fundie things that are actually darndest get through the PubAd? Once we've fixed that, THEN we can talk about organization.

Alternatively, we could change Racists Say The Darndest Things to Bigots Say The Darndest Things.

I just want to say two things. First, that would be stupid and catastrophic beyond belief, Ian1732. Seriously. Who the hell would want to navigate through all that, who would want to maintain it, and who would want to go through the complicated submissions process? That would be worse than me creating a thread poll! Well, I never said it'd be easy... Ah well, I guess we could scrap that idea. Second, I have been doing my best to eliminate non-fundie quotes from PubAd when I'm around, but the homophobe bit is a tad controversial. Some people say homophobia itself is a fundamentalist belief. Some people say it has to be displayed as being based in some other fundamental side of a belief spectrum in order to count. Well, what about attaching tags to quotes, so people could search for specific "breeds" of fundies? I believe I've already said this in another thread...

Tags might work. It's a viable option, just not sure the best way to implement it.

Yeah, me neither. I can assure you it's a pain in the ass. I can get the database together without a second thought, problem is, how the hell do I make them decent to use... That said, I really don't think I'll be opening up any additional archives any time soon, if I can get the tags working I may even trim them down a bit.

The homophobic comments we get are all motivated by religious convictions, not secular ones, and are therefore "fundy." We have an RSTDT because those racist comments are motivated by pure racism and hatred, and not always religious convictions. If we ever got a purely secular homophobic comment, I would be tempted to just put it in RSTDT if it was worthy of mainpaging.
Despite the welcoming atmosphere here, FSTDT is not actually a pro-gay site. We don't promote anyone's interests beyond free-thinking.
