Well, I've been seeing that Franklin Graham's crusade is coming to my neck of the woods in early August. Ho hum www.billygraham.org/RTR/RockTheRiver.aspThis will occur underneath our Arch. Well, the archgrounds is part of the NPS. Would this violate the seperation of church and state?

Heh, I saw posters for these passing through Davenport. Didn't realize it was an evangelical thing.

Personally, while I don't care to see any act there, what's the problem? I just see some like minded artists touring together along the lines of something like Ozzfest or Gigantour. Or is there some ulterior motive at work here? I doubt it. Remember, freedom of speech means they can express their beliefs however they want and a music festival is probably the least offensive way to do it that I can think of.

Religious gatherings happening in public places, even state-owned lands, is not a violation of the separation of church and state. Anyone can rent such public spaces, including for religious purposes. A Christian rock tour can use it the same as anyone else.
That said, haha, Christian rock fest! Can you smell the astroturf?

Shit, we're having a "Rock the River" thing in Mission. I wonder if it's another fundie bullshit scheme (they tend to not tell you things are fundie around here until you buy your ticket.
Well I can't find anything one way or the other, but I am getting an ad for "Lifefest NC"

I didn't know that Ozzfest had any specific message attached to it. Though "piss off mommy and daddy" might count, if you're desperate. Freedom of Speech is great, but hardly protects them from the criticism of us not wanting them around. Though honestly, as long as I don't have to hear it, I don't personally give a damn. They can proseltyse as much as they want, but my main point was that they do proseltyse, and I'm unaware of Ozzfest doing that. I'm not even sure this counts as an "ulterior" motive. It seems to be fairly up there in terms of face value motives for such a performance. Also, just let me say...EWWWW! SKILLET AND FLYLEAF! GETITOFFGETITOFF!

Yeah, but in general, they're pretty much literally preaching to the converted. In terms of effective proselyting and conversion (if such a thing even actually exists) screaming Harry on main street is probably doing better.
If you need lulz, you can watch from a distance as a bunch of sober people listen to ersatz rock and desperately try and convince themselves and everyone else that they're having just as good a time as those awful heathens.

I didn't know that Ozzfest had any specific message attached to it. Though "piss off mommy and daddy" might count, if you're desperate. Well, it doesn't, but the majority of Ozzfest bands are metal bands. [quot]Freedom of Speech is great, but hardly protects them from the criticism of us not wanting them around.
Not saying it does protect them, but some of the above posts seem to be mocking the idea of Christian bands putting on a festival as inherently fundie. And here we have my point, sans the Ozzfest thing. I only mentioned Ozzfest as an example of a secular music festival. [qupte]Also, just let me say...EWWWW! SKILLET AND FLYLEAF! GETITOFFGETITOFF!
Now that's something that I would never argue.
