I don't know how, I don't know why, but I have recently converted to drinking coffee. My mom is mortified, and she says that when we run out she isn't getting anymore. She also said something about getting my Dad to drink tea instead of coffee. Weirdly enough my Dad has no problems.
This is compounded by the fact the coffee is at least a year old in my fridge, and it's decaf.
*PS. I like semi sweet with a lot of 1% milk, unlike my tea, very sweet and literally five drips of half and half.

Coffe? What's coffe?
More on topic, what's wrong with coffee? Seriously, what the fuck? Coffee is cheap and legal, and its not even that bad compared to other legal things like tobacco and liquor.

Half and half in tea? Ewwwwwwww...
I only see a problem with coffee drinking if you are four years old.
What's the difficulty - especially as you say it is decaff?

Is it fully decaf? Or is it only half-decaf? I'm not sure it's possible to become addicted to decaf (since it's the caffeine that's addictive. Other than the fact that the coffee was a year old, I can't see what your mother's concern is. It's possible that she feels that even decaf is addicting, at which point all you need to do is explain to her that it's not.
Frankly, preventing someone from drinking a legal beverage is silly, especially since the worse that happens with coffee (the caffeinated kind) is that it makes you a bit hyper if you drink too much. Most people don't need to drink that much (even people who drink a lot of coffee generally don't drink enough for hyperactivity). For decaf? It's kind of like telling you that you can't drink water.

Personally, I would never drink decaf, even if you put a gun to my head.
Also, the LD50 (median lethal dose) of caffeine in humans is about 150-200mg per kilogram of body mass. That means that, for the average adult human, it would take some 80-100 cups of coffee to kill you, and even then you'd have to drink them up pretty fast, much in the way of your typical frat boy with a pint of pisswasser.

I drink mostly coffee, but I sometimes have tea when I can get it. I prefer both my tea and coffee black, though I usually have my tea sweeter than I do my coffee (two full teaspoons of sugar as opposed to one teaspoon of sugar). Mostly, I like my coffee not to be overly sweet so I can still taste a littlle bit of that bitter edge coffee has, but to still have a smooth overall drink. I don't normally like the way tea tastes when unsweetened, so I much prefer it sweeter. I can drink coffee unsweetened, can't really do so with tea.
I prefer a smooth, filter coffee over instant, but I don't mind drink instant as long as it tastes okay for me. So yeah, coffee's perhaps the only thing I could be said for having a 'vice' on.

Oh, coffee! Poison of my choice! I drink a litre or so a day. Black, no sugar. I'm a purist. Addicted? Maybe, but I also smoke, and I think that's worse.

I only see a problem with coffee drinking if you are four years old. My grandma started me out young--three or four years old. Mind you, it was more like a tablespoon of coffee diluted in a cup of milk. I come from a long line of coffee-drinking Norwegians. ;D I only drink a cup at a time, and not very often but I drink more in cold weather. I can't stand tea, although the Lipton green and white teas that come in the bottles are good, but they either have aspartame or HFCS, so I don't drink them. Never tried the energy drinks, and wouldn't want to.

I don't see the point of drinking Decaf. I don't particularly like the taste of coffee that much (I drink mochas usually rather then straight coffee) and if I wasn't going for caffeine I'd drink hot chocolate instead. Only reason I want the coffee is for the caffeine.
I like tea as well, my grandmother is English so she introduced me to to tea at a young age. I like my tea with milk and sugar, though I'll occasionally drink it without milk.

This is my typical week.
First and second day shift. 1-2 14oz coffees.
My 24 hours off (I work swing shift). 1 8-cup pot after work, usually to keep me up to 2-4AM. 4 mugs is what that usually turns out.
First and second night shift. 1 14 oz coffee, 4 mugs in a thermos, Russian style. Double strength, and watered down over the course of the night.
First day off (meaning I come home from work, shower and crash for 4 hours), 1 pot immediately upon rising. Consumed usually within 2 hours, sometimes a second.
2-4th days off, 1-2 pots brewed over the day.
I usually buy dark roasted because I like the strong flavor. With Maxwell House, I'd go through a 2lb can every two weeks because of its miserable flavor. I can usually get a month out of my West Coast Dark Roast.
Personally, I'd like to cut out the second pot on my weekends and get down to a pot being 6 cups of water instead of 8. Working shift work, I can't really get out of using stimulants and I don't want to get into caffeine pills. the smell of Red Bull and Rockstar makes me sick.
I drink it black, although I usually have to have something sweet to eat with it. I don't like the flavor of sweetened coffee unless it's hot chocolate powder.
I also need to drink more water.

I can drink it black, though I usually like some cream and sugar of some sort. My favorite thing is Coffee Mate's vanilla caramel. yummy! ^_^
Anyone else ever eaten chocolate covered espresso beans? Eeeeeeeeeeeee!

Hell yeah! Those beans rock ass!
Also, for those who want energy, but are leery of energy drinks, I'd suggest ya go to your local Walgreens and procure a Jolt Cola. Its taste is only slightly off of what a normal Coke tastes like and it is fucking HUGE.
[edit] Also, Aqua, I showed my mom your avatar, and she fuckin rofl'd all over the place. So did I. That thing is genius.

I tried drinking black coffee yesterday. I couldn't do it. It was so bad. It was like drinking hot water with a bad taste to it while the friend I was with got a triple-triple and it still wasn't enough sugar.
My grandpa drinks atleast a pot a day. Goes to Tim Hortons around 6 or so and gets a large black. Goes for breakfast at 8 and has two cups there, also black. Around 2-3 or 3-4 he goes to Tim Hortons for a large black. Goes for supper at 7 and has another two cups. Then at 9 he goes for the last coffee of the day which is a large black.
I actually think it might be a pot and a half.

I could never drink black coffee, either. Its just too damned bitter on its own. I use plenty of creamer (preferably liquid) and lots of sugar. For your average like...12oz glass, I put in like 1/3 cup of sugar.
Also, who puts anything other than sugar in their tea? Milk? Creamer? Half-and-half? What the hell?
