Every time people complain about removing lesbians from a TV show, I always hope the effort will hilariously backfire. You can't censor out gay relationships without either horribly butchering the show (in this case, before it ever even airs) or ending up with Obvious "Non-"Lesbians. Anyone who's watched Sailor Moon knows what I'm talking about.

It was on TV a few weeks ago that some people wanted a person fired from her job on CBBC because she hadd been born with one arm. I suspect the same group are part of those kicking off over this. I, um what? Are you fucking serious?

The complaints about the one-armed presenter definitely happened. Absolutely. I'll dig out a link in a moment.
It was odd to see the standard "can't allow gays in public in case our kids ask about them and we're embarrassed &c." argument trotted out for the disabled, I tell ye.

I'm going to go bash my head against a wall. It just saves the trouble of having to click a link to get a headache.

Her name was Cerrie Burnell, and there's cites for the shite over at her Wiki page. Oddly, through pure coincidence, two good mates of mine have sisters working on the complaints desks of the BBC and Channel 4. They've occasionally sent me on some outlandish shit. i'll dig it out for you as and when I can. This Link, though, is a veritable FSTDT of TV Complaints. Speak you're Branes is awesome.

Actually America is also coming along in regards with gays on daytime soaps. In fact, All My Children just had a lesbian wedding between two major characters.
Ironbite-not..a month ago I want to say.

Whaaaaat? I must have missed this one. Dare I even ask what reason they had for wanting the BBC to break the law?EDIT: Done a bit more research. Even the Daily Fail readers think they're full of shit! This Link, though, is a veritable FSTDT of TV Complaints. Speak you're Branes is awesome. Loved this: The Fahrenheit scale is no more English than Celsius, you utter moron. You want an English temperature scale on the weather forecast, ask them to report in Kelvin.

That's the problem? These people suck too much as parents to explain that sort of thing? One of the women who worked in my first elementary school had a missing arm. This was a K-2 school, so the fact that nobody was scared of her should indicate something. I think the larger issue is this whole nonsense of "how will we explain this to our children?" As a guiding principle for what should be acceptable in society. I can almost see the argument for a host with one hand on a children's show, but this crap about daytime soaps, which are rarely child appropriate, is really dumb. And it gets worse in society. "Well how am I supposed to explain gays to my kids?" Ummmm...How do you explain other uncomfortable things to your children?

"How do I explain x to my kids" is just a cop out anyway. I really don't think that's the real reason. It just sounds good (well, maybe not). It's stupid and moronic.

Yeah, it's usually just projecting your own prejudices onto your offspring to use them as a crutch. I remember seeing this one fundie bitch about Monty Python because the guys dressed like ladies. God. How must they feel about Kids in the Hall? Grew up on them.
