I always hate it when an entertainer I like has views I deplore. The author Orson Scott Card is a freakin' loon but his books seem okay for Sci Fi. Oh and Dean Koontz is a strict Roman Catholic with all the fundie traits that implies... I've never read Koontz but I share your opinions of Card.

Koontz is fun too (or at least his older stuff is) but it doesn't translate to movies worth crap.

Imagine if that guy who wrote the Hardy Boys rewrote the most formulaic of Stephen King's work. Over and over and over again. Even the books with interesting premises, which some of them genuinely do have, end up fucked in execution.
They're a grand way to pass the 45 minutes to an hour they take to read, I suppose. I used to buy them in a Charity shop when I was getting a bus home to visit me Ma and needed something to pass the trip. Kind of a prose Van Damme movie.

Ah, so they are fluff reads sorta like Dan Brown and Tom Clancy? Well except, Clancy writing 1,000+ page books.

Don't get me wrong. I don't dislike King at all. Most of his stuff is top notch. It's pretty hard to deny he chucked out the odd pot-boiler down the years, though.

I was more interested in what made him a loon.

Koontz is fun too (or at least his older stuff is) but it doesn't translate to movies worth crap. But Affleck was the BOMB in Phantoms. Koontz is very much like a good action movie, I'd say. I wouldn't compare him to Stephen "Diddy" King, but then, I've never been a fan of the "Lovecraft for Dummies" movement, anyway. However, Koontz isn't exactly brilliant or anything. Then again, I've only read a couple of Koontz's books, so I'm reticent to say too much either to his credit or detriment. I try and stay away from the views of the authors I read, the musicians I follow, etc. I say try to, because it's impossible to completely avoid.
