I'm not sayin the graphics are top-of-the-line, but that's not what its about. Also, its the most easily emulated MMO I know of, and the one I'm most familiar with. If you have any other legal suggestions, go on ahead, I'm all ears.

What would having a graphical interface for our chats accomplish besides making things harder to follow?

Its something different, something new. I agree, it could clutter things up, but it allows you the freedom to do what you want, speak to whom you want. Want to talk only to Chi, Lady R, and Distind (just pullin names out of a hat, here), and don't want people (like...say, Ironbite) butting in or causing a ruckus? You can go to a different town.
Also, it'd afford the chance for Cait to actually chase Ironbite around with an axe, and who wouldn't want to see that?
All I'm sayin is, it would give some new options to fool around. We could give it a trial run, see weather or not it would be fun, and go from there. Hell, I could run the trial myself given I, to my knowledge, have the most experience with it.
The real question is: Why not?

I already screen users and ban people we don't want around, so that wouldn't really do anything new there.

'Ey, ya got nothin to lose (cept some HDD space, which can easily be recovered), and potentially something to gain. If nothing else, it'd make for an interesting experiment.

First, you should have stated up front that people would have to download things onto their computer to access this. There are members of these forums who don't bother with links.
Second, I'm asking what the gain would be other than "look! it has pre-rendered graphics and fun noises!" Otherwise, I don't know that I have anything to gain at all.

Well...I figured the downloading thing would've been inferred, but I suppose there's no harm in just saying it.
Also, if its not for you, that's OK. I'm not trying to pressure you into joining. Its a new medium for interaction, something that some people might like. I understand, its not your thing, and that's cool. Like I said before, I'm not trying to supplant the IRC, I'm offering a new way in which we can interact, for those who are interested in such things. For those who aren't, so be it.
Also, Lady R, I'll be honest with you, your second point came off as somewhat insulting.

Fuck my previous argument. This project will never be officially endorsed by FSTDT due to a complete lack of the ability of any given mod to observe and intervene in any given situation where moderation would be in order.
In the IRC, the OPs can take charge and keep order. Granted it hardly ever has to happen (with a side of ever), but when it is required it gets done, usually immediately. How the living fuck would we be able to do that without being able to see what's going on and keep an eye on things? It isn't like we can have our character be everywhere at once.
Additionally, people can review conversations in the IRC because it's sort of just sitting there to scroll up and re-read something or catch up on what's going on. It also allows for logging so there can be evidence in case of behavioral investigation. Point to me how the hell anyone is going to accomplish that with an end-user capacity MMO client.
Take your proposal and the horse it rode in on. I bid them both good day.

1) People can report those who are being particularly annoying.
2) You have a journal, where chat is kept track of.
3) If I remember correctly, all you have to do to enable convo logging in RunUO is switch a setting.
Also, cool down, Lady R. I'm not trying to antagonize anyone here.

Yes, people can report, but guess what? Part of being a mod means you don't really trust the people you have power over very much. You can't afford to. So unless you can have access to all logs at all times, it's one person's word versus the other, and none of us needs to deal with that.
And to be honest, I don't think anyone even WANTS to, so who would mod your project?

The person running the shard has access to the running chat log at any time. Also, I'm not entirely sure, but I believe there's a way to stream the log to the GMs. If not, I'm sure there's a way it could be done, it might take some tinkering, but it could be done.

Not only is that an issue, but you said yourself you can't keep it running all the time. People get on this site from places all over the world, which means 24 hours a day 7 days a week, which you yourself have stated is not an option for you. Who would have to sacrifice their computer or dedicated server to keep it running when you're gone, or is that sort of transfer even possible? And if it is, what kind of problems would that create for the users?
All I'm saying is it really looks like you just didn't think this thing all the way through, and if you did you certainly didn't present it that way in the slightest.

Yeah, massive hassle. If you can find some poor SOB to host the thing, go for it. But I'm not seeing it getting support from the mods like the IRC did. Your freetime and all, but I don't see it taking off.
