See I see them as completely fundie because they're basically Christianity in Saffron robes.
So yeah, there's the disconnect of not understanding the other religions. Then again the really crazy ones would of been deleted under tl;dr

So yeah, there's the disconnect of not understanding the other religions. Perhaps. The one about a vow of ignorance confused me, and it's possible that the third one really only seems fundie to those who are more intimately familiar with the religion. It struck me as rather inane, but not all that crazy or amusing.

Actually I voted down that one, out of context it really wasn't that insane. and yeah the language barrier exists, and Buddhists love to talk.... damn do they love to talk. For a religion that is supposed to be about cutting shit out of your life, they can put pages worth of yap out there that basically says nothing. And why are so many Buddhist boards locked down? SGI I can understand, they're basically the Scientology of Buddhism. Meanwhile, I've found a board I might join, there's some decent people on it, but I've got some fundie quotes off of it as well.

It occurs to me that this problem is intractible, as we can neither force fundmentalists to use the Internet nor request that they use English. In other words, we'll just have to make do with what's around.

Make due, you mean.
Also, on the subject of where our quotes come from, we tend to be too damn picky.
"We're getting too many quotes from RR." "YouTube is just too retarded." "There are too many trolls on Y!A."
At the end of the day, I don't really go anywhere that I can submit quotes from, so I'll take whatever I can get.

I am fairly set on making do. As to your argument, at the end of the day I wouldn't mind a break from the usual blather.

Would it happen to have an explanation for this? Say I want to make spaghetti bolognese, but I don't have any spaghetti. I can do it with vermicelli, and if I choose to use the vermicelli I am making do with it.

Dang, now I am wanting a Mountain Dew game fuel. I might as well just inject the sugar and caffeine into my blood stream.
