I say this on MSNBC, Oberman I think, the German company has come out and said that they were unaware of any racial implications. They chose chicken fingers because it is an American style food that is becoming very popular in Europe.

Obama's got really beautiful hands--his fingers are long and thin like the rest of him--and while I never had a crush on him, I did actually let my mind wander about what he could do with those hands during some of his speeches. (Yes, now that he's elected, I can confess this!) Therefore, I don't really need that association!
Probably a good thing I'm allergic to chicken.

I wasn't referring to the people here. I was talking about the people at the company who makes these things who are responsible for coming up with ideas for new products. I don't think they were trying to be racists. I think they were just trying to boost sales. I'm not saying they were actually trying to be racist. I'm just saying that they're right nitwits for missing the common stereotype associated with black people and chicken.

I've lived in Europe and Australia and was unaware of any negative connotations so the Germans missing it is no surprise.

It's probably more or less exclusive to the US, so normally I couldn't fault them for not knowing. Except for the fact that they went and named the product after the president of this country (which is pretty goofy anyway). You'd think the could do at least a little research... like ask any random American what they thought of it.
Incidentally I wouldn't exactly say it has negative connotations, it's not that there's anything particular wrong with liking fried chicken, it's just a really famous stereotype (in this country) and offensive simply because it's a stereotype. Same with watermelon.

Am I the only one who saw the title as sexual before coming into the thread?

It may be a common stereotype in the US but not in other countries - I've not encountered it in either the UK or Australia, so seems reasonable it wouldn't be widely known in Germany.

How about tomato sauce covered beef spheroids after the PM. We'll call 'em Brown Balls

The only way I'd see this as deliberately racist is if it came with watermelon dipping sauce.
Ironbite-which wouldn't taste very good on chicken fingers.

I can't fault a German company for not researching what foods we find offencive, nor for not asking Americans since they're... in Europe.
But lol for unintended political food backfires.
