www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,509719,00.html If your computer doesn't burst into flames upon entering the site, you'll be fine. I have some idea of the development of the creationist v. science debate in Texas for quite some time. Frankly, I am disgusted at the use of political power for the purpose of forwarding an agenda like creationism. Of course, being a poly sci major, it doesn't surprise me one bit. But, really, why go through so much trouble passing state bills in order for your theory to survive. The theory doesn't stand and one's belief in God doesn't die upon accepting evolution. If you must do something about it, develop a better theory that makes more sense. Try something rather than relegating political authority to validate the theory. Of course, this is a more restrained response compared to what I really feel, which includes several expletives. Of course, I am an angry person. Again, I am a poly sci major. I hate to think what people with science degrees are thinking.

See, this is the problem with Creationism and Creationists; they insist that their religion is actually science. And that's bullshit.
Those of us with rational minds, regardless of our religious beliefs, should resist with every ounce of our being the attempt to transform creationism into legitimate science.

That... thing doesn't even qualify as a coherent thought.

And this dumbass is a state rep? Anyone who says shit like this needs to be kept away from anything pertaining to education...except maybe enrolling as a mature student at a college.
Actually, yes, it would be a balanced education. They'd learn valid, testable scientific theories and not fantasies and fairy tails masquerading as "True Science!©"
(Give it time, and I promise True Science!© will catch on with the fundies and creationism crowd.)

Hmmm...maybe we should let Chuck Norris take over Texas...they can change the name to Fundieland and we can encourage all the other fundies to move there also.

Atleast he's honest, usually they try to dress it up in intelligent design. this one outright admitted he wants to give degrees to goddiditologists.

Why is it that whenever we hear about fundies pulling bullshit like this about evolution and actually succeeding, it's always, ALWAYS in the deep south of America (particularly Texas)?
And you normal Americans actually fought and died just to be in the same country as these idiots...

Well, assuming a potential employer actually looks at what a degree is in, I should think this would be sort of self-regulating anyway. It's not as though Sanofi Aventis is going to look at that Creationism degree and say "Finally! Someone can pray us the next generation of penicillin-based antibiotics!" any more than they'd hire people with degrees in Philosophy, Poli. Sci., or theology for the same job.
I can see an argument being made that it will institutionalize a religious belief as science, but I think it actually cuts both ways. If you were to accredit someone in Creation science, then put them out in the real, scientific world, I think you'd swiftly see which "opinion" was based on objectivity. Sometimes the best way to show someone what an idiot they are is to allow them to fall on their ass.

With any luck Texas actually will secede from America and all the fundies will go flocking there. I give it six months before they're begging to be let back in. Fundies couldn't run a country successfully even if there was divine intervention.

And you normal Americans actually fought and died just to be in the same country as these idiots... The single biggest mistake in American history. Sometimes I wish my ancestors had just stayed in Lithuania. Sometimes I wish my ancestors had just stayed in Denmark. Would you believe me if I told you that at least two people on the Texas Board of ED DROPPED OUT of College? Yes, actually, I would believe you.
