If this should go in somewhere else, feel free to move. But since it's about writing, I figured here was best.
So I've got a fully completely novel I need to get back to trying to get published. And a second that's mostly completed, a sequel. But I wasn't quite satisfied with where it fit in the scheme of things, so recently, I decided to slap another between them.
I mean really recently. The first file in the folder, the introduction, is dated the tenth of this month. My current page count across the intro plus the first five chapters (which are short for me, but not by much) is 33. This is probably a little closer to 30, once you factor in partial pages and the like, but even 30 is nothing to sneeze at in terms of completion.
Now, quick doesn't mean good, and there's still the chance that the final product will suck. I'm certainly going to go back through and revise stuff once I've got the framework done, but still, I'm kind of going "wow!" At the volume if nothing else. Plus, there were a couple passages I wrote that I really do like a lot, so it's not like I really think I'm trading quality for volume.
So psyched.
You ever just get, creatively speaking, in the zone? Writing, music, visual art, ummm...Interpretive dance? I dunno. Things of a creative bent?
On a side note, I should never write creepy shit at 1 in the morning.

At one point, it was pretty normal for me to pull all-nighters when it came to writing. I'd get some ideas, start hammering away, and by the time I was done it was either some utterly early hour or even broad daylight.
Back in the winter of '02, I did two in a row; I must have put at least 2,000 - 3,000 words on paper just in that little stretch.

When I get in the zone creatively, it feels less like I'm creating something and more like I'm discovering something that was there all along. I've heard other artists describe similar experiences. Doesn't happen nearly as often as I'd like.

Last fall, I churned out an entire episode of fanfic in about a week. I got rave reviews.

When I get into Das Zone (as I call it), I don't even really focus on what I'm doing so much as I focus on doing it...if that makes any sense. Of course, it comes with the downside of tunnelvision...with all my senses.
