www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/5077892/Father-killed-partner-who-became-hooked-on-Sony-PlayStation.htmlThis woman sounds like, well, a crazy bitch, but apparently her partner went just a little bit crazier. I have to wonder what kind of crowing everyone's favorite disbarred twit, Jack Thompson, is going to do over this. My guess is that the moral drawn will be that violent video games lead to violent behavior, NOT that things like addiction or refusal to communicate openly cause problems... even though the first point isn't even a valid conclusion from this case.

Are you fucking kidding me...
Married 30 years, he's 62, she's 46. I think I just found the root of the issue via basic math.
I know, I know, love is love, but 32 marrying someone half your age, hell, marrying anyone half your age, is fucking creepy and will probably not end well.
This is nothing but a gambit for fucking media attention, let the fucker rot for the rest of his life, if you get jealous over a damn game, you deserve it.

The scary thing is that equation actually works, too...

My guess is that the moral drawn will be that violent video games lead to violent behavior... That will be hard to pull off since the person that got killed was the one playing the game, not the other way around.

Since when has logic played a role in Moral Panic?

I remember discussing things like this on a different message board years ago. Someone mentioned the 'studies' which showed that violent video games cause violence in children. I brought up that I had personally studied one of those...well.. studies in college, and I then proceeded to systematically rip said study apart, piece-by-piece.
Of course, the people I was 'discussing' it with, who had never even seen the study (they just claimed it existed) argued that I didn't know what I was talking about.
Yeah, I know the study, word-for-word, yet I'm an idiot. You merely heard such a study exists, and you're an expert.

Yeah, I know the study, word-for-word, yet I'm an idiot. You merely heard such a study exists, and you're an expert. Not to mention that most of these studies really only demonstrate (at best) that violent people enjoy violent video games. They rarely address the cause of the violent tendencies. People usually just jump to "violent people play video games, therefore video games cause violence." I've been shown over a dozen of these studies by the "video games lead to murder" crowd, and I'm yet to see a single one of them where the study itself actually backs up the conclusion that people want it to. That if you play video games, you will become a murderer.

That will be hard to pull off since the person that got killed was the one playing the game, not the other way around. I didn't say it was a VALID conclusion, just the one I expect we'll see. The problem was really the addiction, but since the addiction was over the game... well, we'll see what comes up.

I thought this article would be about a woman killed during grand theft auto, as in, someone got murdered during a car-jacking. This is just more fucked up.

There was also the suspicion of her having an affair and her threats to kick him out of the house. Her being up all night and making him sleep on the couch just because she wanted to play was probably the final insult.

Ironically, somebody getting killed over a car-jacking would just be... like, Tuesday afternoon in Los Angeles. We live in an incredibly messed up world.

If anything this can be used to link airport employees to violent crimes if they can with video games.
There's a number of faults here, communication, disrespect, etc...but i think there's more to it than 'he slept on the couch and suspected an affair'. People don't generally ask their spouse to move out for no reason
