Whats the deal with the shit signs? Is it an American thing? Does a shit sign somehow imply a more passionate belief in your argument? Who goes to a demo with a 'sign' that is nothing more than a piece of badly cut card with a badly hand written slogan on it?
I was a bit of an activist in my youth and I know its not hard to knock up a simple message in Word, print it out and stick it to a neatly cut card backing.
I see this a lot in US protests. Its like they turn up and think,
"damn I forgot to bring a sign",
so they grab a piece of card out a dumpster and scrawl some slogan in biro.
Most of these signs look like they should have "Hungry and Homeless" written on the back.

Get signs that look too nice, and you get accusations of an "astroturf" campaign. Also, when you’re poor, it pays to recycle the old packaging rather than go out and spend extra money on quality tagboard.  |

Most of them are protesting the loss of jobs in America, so maybe some of those signs did say hungry and homeless on the other side. |
