hi I am fairly new in the Forums. I have been lurking on the Main Site for the past two years or so. I have to write a presentation about fundamentalist cults for my communication class, because we are currently studying methods of manipulation and its affects. 1. What is the definition of a cult? 2. How are its members manipulated ( use a prominent cult as an example) 3. Why are cults so dangerous? How can teenagers be protected from its influence? Well we kind of have a lack of weird cults in Germany, except maybe Scientology. I was thinking in going undercover at Rapture Randy. ;D . I know that in some cults they are incredibly friendly to you and than when you are sneered in the show their true face. They suddenly expect you do do things that are almost impossible. Since you guys deal with fundie cults a lot here maybe you have some information I could use for my presentation. AlSidre

I thought the German government declared Sientology a a dangerous cult.
FLDS is a good cult. Same with Jonestown and Heaven's Gate.

What was that terror group that set off the sarin bomb in the Tokyo subway back in '95? They were a religious cult I think.

ah that's what it was.
Also, do some research on Falon Gong (sp?). The CHinese gov't says they are a dangerous cult.

First and only post and you're hitting people up with basic questions like that? No introduction and simple questions make me feel like you're just a lazy fucker.

This long and nobody's mentioned Westboro Baptist Church? If they're not a cult, I'll dye my hair blue.

It is my understanding that there have been two definitions of cult. The classical definition is a religion with only a few members, but in recent years the definition of a religious movement that is batshit insane has come into prominence. Bonus points for authoritarianism.
