This is the 3rd time I've come to Proboards and have a ad do a auto redirection to some site that says "X program has found something bad on your machine" or something to that effect. I was just wondering if I am the only one that has had this happen to them? No I do not have spyware on my machine previously (malwarebytes comes up clean and so does the anti-virus let alone this XP image is less than a week old) I think its just a random advertisement redirection. So anyone else?

If anyone else does, I want to know, this sounds like classical adware though. I tromp through here rather regularly but haven't seen this yet.

The problem is actually on your computer :x you'll need an adware removal program to get rid of it.

I would consider it on my computer if it happened like every time I visit or more often when I visit, but the 3rd time, I see I forgot to add isn't 3 consecutive times but 3 times randomly spanned throughout this week like its a random ad in pro-boards ad list that is setup to do it. edit - Also just out of curiosity if it is/was my computer the problem, why don't I have problems with any redirect ads outside of pro boards? No other sites that I go to have caused any redirects.

No other sites that I go to have caused any redirects. It's simple: You just haven't found the other sites where it can happen. It used to happen to me all the time on FML, but it was still something on my computer. Believe me, I know EXACTLY what you're talking about, and it's definitely on your computer. It's basically a piece of adware on your computer that gets triggered by an advertisement on the web. Sorta like a sleeper agent.

See, I don't trust ads to not put shit on my computer. As such, I have NoScript. Makes for a much safer computer.

www.safer-networking.org/en/download/Ad-ware removal program. Also, if you aren't using an anti-virus program such as AVG or Avast!, one of those might work. I've learned that McAfee is shit at detecting and removing stuff.

I've got both NoScript and ABP. ABP for the stuff NoScript doesn't get.

I've found microsoft security essentials to be the most effective and least invasive security suite I've ever dealt with. It's a bit over active at points(any advertising on pirate bay generally sets it off), but it works well enough I haven't had any major issues since I installed it.
Update it once a month and it's a happy little camper. Doesn't cause CPU death at random intervals. Nice little bit of software, free even.
Since not everyone wants to run a distro or fuck with browser plugins.

I have MSE as well. It's very good. It went Danger Will Robinson thanks a redirect for a picture I was looking at for Spartacus and stopped the fake virus scan in its tracks.

I got a new GPU and the drivers on it didn't play nicely with the firewall and virus scan I was using so I switched over to MSE. I'm happy with it.
