Am I reading this link right when I think it's saying I don't actually need iTunes to get an iPod Shuffle to work? help.ubuntu.com/community/PortableDevices/iPhone#Firmware%203.0And yes, I know there's other, maybe better, mp3 players. I want the orange 2G 4th gen Shuffle because it reminds me of a character I made. But if it won't work on Linux (Ubuntu 9.10) then there's no point to getting it.

Yeah, you don't need to itunes to get an ipod working with linux. That being said, I've never attempted it.

iPods should work fine with Amarok, Banshee, RhythmBox, or Songbird. I've never actually tried it, though.

Okay, that's what I thought. I'll take the $45 risk and see if it works, then, I guess. ^^ And tell if it works.

I never got my iPod to work with Banshee or RhythmBox. God knows I tried- I spent hours trying to get the damn thing to sync. I never did manage it and still use my Windows laptop to do all my iPodding.
Never tried Songbird, though, I might try that one after finals week is over.

Ubuntu and iPod Touch. Although I have heard that the Touch is really picky, and that it's easier to get a Nano or a Shuffle to sync with a Linux machine.

Then I think I'll still take the risk... Thank you. ^^

Update. I kind of got it working, but I had to use Vene's windows comp to download iTunes and use it once to transfer one song. Then I used Floola to add more music. So, it seems to be working, even if Floola thinks I'm using a 3rd gen Shuffle and not the 4th gen. Also, the new version of iTunes is unknown to Floola, so those are two things that might cause problems, but aren't right now.
