We're planning on doing the downstairs ourselves, but the upstairs has high ceilings, skylights, and some other things that would make it exceedingly difficult to do ourselves.

You'll want to get that stove out of the living room.

We did all our painting ourselves....yeah, there are a couple of mistakes here and there, but the cash we saved was worth it. Just be sure to leave the windows open. Heck with that, leaving the windows closed is part of the fun! More updates as they become available, please John. I also just bought a new house and will be fixing things up as money becomes available for it. My to-do list so far is: re-do the basement (there is faux wood paneling and the carpet is horrible, among other things) kitchen (outdated mostly, and I would like to knock out part of a wall to add to the open feeling) paint the whole house (doing the baby's room, wife is dragging her feet on deciding on colors for the rest) new windows (20 year old double paned windows with broken hermetic seals...can hardly see out of most of them) shutters (removed when the siding was replaced last year and thrown away) re-do front stoop (I want to extend it and screen it in, we'll see if the wife lets me) landscaping (the previous owner was...zealous...not particularly good at landscaping though) I finally got to mow the lawn (lots of rain recently) and dig up the damn barberry bush they had planted next to the mailbox, so I'm feeling good about that

I'll definitely keep posting updates, Bezon. I'd also be interested in seeing and hearing about the updates on your new home.

Yep, I'll post pics as we get things done.
Also, I forgot the floors for the list. We want laminate in the whole house except the basement. We hate vacuuming and get bored with carpet colors. Also, it adds a new design dimension to add a rug to a room. With a baby coming and a puppy in the house, carpets just don't make sense. It will probably be a year or so before we can get that done, though.

Pity about that view from the living room. You can't see a thing with all those darned trees in the way! ~David D.G.

We got some more quotes on painting, and one of them was lower than all the others (including our previous, late painter) by a wide margin, so we're hiring him to paint the whole house, upstairs and downstairs.
For the past several days, we've been preparing the house by taking down ceiling lights, blinds and shelving, and spackling all the holes and cracks. It's a lot more work than I thought it would be, but we've had a lot of help from my dad, my mother in law, and my oldest niece in law.
We're taking today off, but going back tomorrow to continue work and meet with the painter. He'll start work on Thursday and finish by Saturday. After that, it's new carpet and then we can start moving in!

Nice! I imagine his price was so low because you have to do all of the prep work yourself. I recently got a quote to put a fan box in the ceiling in my daughter's room...$100 for now, and he hasn't looked at it so it will probably be more. I'll most likely be climbing up there myself at some point and wiring the mess myself (fun with electricity!)

That's awesome! I'm so glad you posted this!
We just bought a house in September and it helps light a fire under my big ass to see someone else actually making progress. Keep posting pics! (Want to see some from Bezron, too!)

Heh, only thing I have had time or resources to do so far was paint the baby's room and kill all the plants in the front yard (on accident, of course...).
I'll post some pics of the baby's room shortly

I'm in the process of moving into my new house. It's been painted and carpeted, we've gotten the bed, the washer and drier, the microwave and a mini-fridge, but we're still waiting on the main fridge. We also don't have internet there yet, not until next week, so I haven't been able to get online much.
Money is running low and I still haven't found a job. :-( Unemployment is all that's keeping my head above water.

I just got cable internet hooked up at the house.
If I can get my lazy ass in gear, I've got a lot more in-progress pictures to show.
