news.yahoo.com/s/csm/20110517/cm_csm/384325Apparently his utter hostility to business regulation, indifference to civil rights, and refusal to extend any assistance or support to domestic disaster victims regardless of the circumstances, marks him as the role model that the Tea Party wishes its legislators to emulate. Would that make this the Second Gilded Age, then? Ron Paul claims that he keeps a picture of him in his office, as the ultimate exemplar of limited government.

Grover Cleveland: a liberal, honest Democrat. As US presidents go, he was one of the better ones.

Irresponsible misuser of money. He deliberately screwed the average American in favour of a monopolist aristocracy. It was quite clear class war.

Grover Cleveland: a liberal, honest Democrat. As US presidents go, he was one of the better ones. Irresponsible misuser of money. He deliberately screwed the average American in favour of a monopolist aristocracy. It was quite clear class war. as with most Presidents, your mileage may vary. Both statements are true. Anyway, I want to be snarky and suggest that the teabaggers love Cleveland because like them, he didn't believe Hawaii was part of the United States.

The only thing virtually any American could possibly name about Cleveland is that he had two non-consecutive terms as President. Although actually, I suspect that most Americans, let alone most Tea Party members, wouldn't be able to identify him as a President. A... a city, maybe. Something with Drew Carey?

The only thing virtually any American could possibly name about Cleveland is that he had two non-consecutive terms as President. This is exactly why he's being hailed as a genius- nobody can remember losing their job, all their money or their house under him. Unlike similar recent presidents (Reagen/Bush).

That's probably true, but how does that dovetail with the fact that a lot of these guys are still worshiping Reagan and Bush?

That's probably true, but how does that dovetail with the fact that a lot of these guys are still worshiping Reagan and Bush? The idea is to convince the vast majority- the moderates, who are politically ignorant and politically apathetic. They might remember a lot of people losing their jobs in the 80s- but they won't know anything about early-20th century obscure presidents.

Ron Paul claims that he keeps a picture of him in his office, as the ultimate exemplar of limited government. not shocked by this since Ron Paul does want to return us to the 19th century- with the gilded age in full swing
