I bought an external CD Writer since my comp's DC ROM has been down for a year, it gave me the same problems as the previous one. After a lot of cursing and kicking the wall, I copied the error message into my online search engine and found that other people had the same problem. I went to a site that someone linked, ran their program, and now my orig. CR ROM is working again. Why didn't I think of that a year ago?
(If you don't know that answer, see the title of this.)

Think of it as a learning experience. Always, always search the internet for the error code you got. If that's a no-go, drivers.

Maybe you should've used a Marvel ROM instead.

I even sent the reported the problem multiple times. It just never occurred to me to just c/p the error message in my search engine. DUH! At least now I can go back to making death machines roller coasters again.

If it's any consolation, I can top that for stupidity. For the last few days, my phone has been completely silent. No sound of any sort except when making or receiving a call. After spending several hours on-and-off searching through the settings for the possible problem and briefly considering sending it to the manufacturer for repair, I discovered the problem this afternoon. You know what it was?
The phone has a mute switch, which just so happened to be in the "mute" position. I'm still feeling like a moron.

Some laptops with wireless Internet access have a little on/off switch for the wireless antenna. While I've never fallen afoul of it, I've been asked by family and occasionally friends to "fix their Internet" on several occasions, only to find it's that switch.

My newest laptop doesn't have an external switch. Which is interesting.
