I am shocked that a parent who is sociopathic enough to consider "surprise abduction" a good idea, hasn't already set off Child Services years ago.
EDIT: I just read the article, and the Cross Creek website. It's disturbing how even with the downright demonically cruel behavior exhibited by the staff, the website itself sets off no alarm bells, even in an M.Ed. like me. On the surface, it sounds like a normal Christian therapy program, but below the surface is Hell.

So glad I'm not the only one who has rage cigarettes whenever a news story pisses me off. I as reading an article the other day that suggested that cigarettes might be contributing to health problems. What? I thought they were full of vitamin C and calcium. Is that not true?

"normal Christian therapy program" I may be getting cynical in my old age, but any time I encounter any sort of "therapy" that isdependent on ideology or religion, rather than best therapeutic practice, that's a pretty big red flag for me right there.

Public school really pushed that in early health classes. Looking back, that's...not cool. My parents beat school to the punch. See, my paternal grandfather died of lung cancer years before I was born. He was a pack-a-day smoker. My parents informed me of this fact when I was in first grade.

@mrs. Antichrist: I'm sure anyone who fell asleep against your chest would do so purring.
@lhm: Come now, good True Christians need therapy, too, but they don't want a therapist who'll encourage being comfortable with one's sexuality!

I'm guessing if a kid fought back and injured the 'staff workers,' they and/or their parents would face charges for assault, attempted manslaughter, or some shit like that.
Personally (Although I'm quite a ways over 18), I'd go for the kill or maiming. Jail has got to be better than this program. Hell, jail has to be better than living with parents who arrange for you to be put in the program!

I still can't wrap my head around that this group is literally advertising that it accepts payment to kidnap kids & remold them to "glorify Christ" even if they're "unwilling" & is totally legal.
There is literally no excuse for this.
Edit: At least if I ended up in jail, it would be through my own choice. Another thought I had: What if you injure yourself? The logic being, you'll need medical attention, so they'll have to take you to a hospital where you can try to get some help without creepy old Christian Extremists breathing down your neck.

They'd probably insist on escorting you everywhere, so you'd have to pitch a fit to get the doctors to kick them out-- and then exactly how likely to believe you will the doctors be?

I kind of assumed doctor-patient confidentiality was a thing.
Doctors also have computers in their offices, so you could Google that shit.
Edit: I was talking about prior to getting to the camp. As someone pointed out they might be trained to deal with someone rightfully trying to stab them.
Edit 2: That is seriously messed up. Among everything else, how does a therapy center for "violently disturbed" teens not have medical care? How do you see that & not have it raise some alarm bells?

Yeah, you're better off going to jail.

Posting this because it's relevant. Long story short; they do have medical care, but it's probably only there to keep the facility from getting shut down. They literally do absolutely nothing to help you, you're just told to "deal with it and stop faking."
