The links Virtual Stranger posted are some of the most horible things I've ever read. This were the first texts I was not able to read completly. This is just atrocious (if this is the strongest existing english word for "absolut menschenverachtend grauenhaft"...). Is there anything that can be legally done agianst such institutions (like drowning them in lawsuits)?

those links made me feel physically ill. Really.
there have been lawsuits against these places, and some of them have been shut down, but they keep opening new ones and some of them are in places with lax standards like Mexico so they can't be shut down.

I've always been disgusted at how few rights people under 18 have under the law. Your parents are your guardians, not your owners. They shouldn't be allowed to arrange for you to be taken against your will in the middle of the night to anywhere just because you haven't reached your 18th birthday.

Yeah, I read that last one. And now I read the first one.
The more of these I read, the more horrifying it gets.
Leg Brace Girl's story probably freaked me out the most. "A drug that paralyzes your lungs while preventing you from passing out."

Fucked-up bullshit like this is why I got involved with Youth Rights.

The camps themselves are usually outsourced to foreign countries with more lax standards. The group that owns these run them all independently to keep them from being connected to each other. As for the transport services? Turns out that they're perfectly legal. Not to mention good old-fashioned bribingEDIT: Ninja'd

That's the biggest problem. How are the "transport services" legal?
Edit: They take bribes & accuse the other guy of underhanded dealings. That's real fucking classy.

That's the biggest problem. How are the "transport services" legal? Because minors don't have rights, they have owners. Child abuse laws aren't a guarantee of human rights for children, they're merely restrictions on the parent. These companies can exist because they operate under permission of their legal guardians.

Now that I think about it, I guess they don't technically do anything your parents wouldn't be allowed to.
But, then again, "Literal adherence to a law has little meaning with no respect to its spirit."

Parents are allowed to torture the gay out of you? SHIT, someone help me kidnap my brothers!
As far as the transporting, aren't there laws about someone who isn't a guardian transporting the child over state lines, let alone to another country?
