Obama's biggest advantage is that the Republicans are a bunch of loonies. It's really too bad that all it takes to rise above the crazy of the Republicans is striking mediocrity.

Not to throw a damper on people's (justified) rage, but.. The phrase "take back" can have another meaning. As in, "we had it, we lost it, but we will take it back." The Republicans "took back" the House in 2010. The Democrats "took back" Congress in 2008. And that's what they mean here, clear from context. Just like they're legitimately concerned about Obama's birth certificate, not a liberal negro being in power, and they are concerned about defending marriage, not punishing gays for being different. It *can* have a different meaning, but it takes a certain amount of mental gymnastics to get that meaning to fit from the repeated utterances. Forgot to add to my original comment - I did not watch the video, so have no idea what she said.

I'm still hoping Cain wins the Republican nomination It'd be nice if he won, but I'm not sure he'll be Abel.

I don't know if I should consider this election hilarious or terrifying.

Cut the Gordian knot, SZJ, it probably will be hilariously terrifying... and make the real GOP proper go "holy... FUCK, what is WRONG with these people? Quick, get someone DECENT!"

Followed swiftly by: "SHIT, we don't have anyone decent!" Actually, I suspect there are some decent Republicans. However, for some reason, the leadership of the Republican Party have convinced themselves that the Tea Party is the base, rather than the vast majority of Republicans who wish the Tea Party would die. Much as I hate to make Gingrich look good, but he did state he didn't support Paul Ryan's "kill Medicare" plan. He was forced to change his statement when Fox News and Republican "leaders" condemned him for it.

They courted the batshit too thoroughly. Gingrich looks good by comparison, but only by comparison, really. Not to mention I'm still burned by his "Don't judge me on the things I condemn other people for" bull, but that's probably going to fly with the "moral" conservative sect.

Yeah, but Newt's personal finances and business dealings are SO convoluted and questionable (such as funneling cash from his non-profit political action committees which do almost nothing except letter-campaign fund raising into his for-profit ventures as travel expenses) that any serious nomination would result in so many investigations and indictments that he would be forced to spend all of his time defending himself and none actually campaigning.

This is a lady who said there should be investigations of Congress for UnAmerican activities.
While I am sure she has figured out not to be so blatant again, the attitude is probably still there.
Yes, many of these guys really do feel there's this 5th column (Blacks, immigrants, hispanics, gays, liberals, i.e. not "Real Americans") that has taken over America for some sinister purpose. And ones who don't are still willing to exploit that fear.
Oh and as a side note, according to my computer, UnAmerican is not a real word.

Gingrich looks good by comparison, but only by comparison, really. Sorry for the confusion. I didn't mean to infer Gingrich would make a good candidate. (I know he would not.) I only meant that he tried to take a reasonable position on Medicare and was ripped to shreds. That, IMO, is the major problem with the Republican Party at the moment. I have no doubt there are reasonable GOP-members who do not bow to the Tea Party. The problem is that if any of them tried to step forward, they would be shouted down (the way Gingrich was).
