Alternatively, give her treatment, and maybe, once she is deemed safe, try to ease her back into society? Indeed, best make her fit for society again if at all possible. Inmates are bloody expensive.

Well, its not an Urban Myth anymore Sadly, this was my first thought, too. Now I'm wondering -- a six-week old baby wouldn't (easily) fit in a standard sized microwave, right?

She doesn't deserve it.

Well... she does if she was clinically insane at the time. Horrific as her act was, I don't believe in punishing people for things they aren't responsible for.

Sure, but you'd have to be absolutely sure she wouldn't go insane again. Even assuming she wasn't aware of anything that was happening, nobody deserves to be a victim.

Mandatory sterilization is cruel and unusual, regardless of whether or not she's legally insane.
If she's insane: Being mentally ill doesn't nullify your rights over your own body. If she's still so dangerous that she poses a risk to other people, the doctors shouldn't give her the okay to be released.
On the other hand, if she's mentally competent, she can spend the rest of her life in prison with no chance of parole. It's doubtful she'll be doing much breeding in there, and if she does somehow get pregnant, she obviously wouldn't be the one raising that child.
There is no justification for hacking out her uterus, crazy or not.

What part didn't you understand? Never mind. I get what you're saying. And you're correct, though you're being an ass about it.

Jeez, urban myths are becoming reality....
This reminds me of a case that happened in Edmonton a few years ago. A couple left their home for the weekend, and a couple of teenagers (if I recall correctly, they were like 13 or 14) broke into their house, and thought it would be a great hoot to MICROWAVE their cat.
The little fuckers got off with a slap on the wrist (Ah, Canadian justice), but their families both had to skip town when someone released their names and PHOTOS on facebook, due to the ban on releasing the names of young offenders. I don't think anyone knows where they are now.

I've got no clue. I don't even know what their names are because the police had the facebook account shut down the second they learned of it, and I didn't get a chance to take a peek for myself. The info was only available for like a couple hours, but enough people saw it to scare the families away.

If she's found to be mentally incompetent she'll still spend her life locked away from society. It'll just be a change of locals and pills instead of being beaten to death.
