I'm not sure how I feel about this, so I wanted to throw it out there and see what all of y'all think... From today's Washington Post (Obviously this isn't the entire article.) I do see why predominantly black churchs would be tripping over themselves to have the Obamas become members. But I can't help asking "who cares?" In the end, what does it matter if they attend a mostly black church, a racially mixed church, or build a pagan grove on the White House lawn? And why does there have to be a "message" in whatever church the family chooses? Can't they just go where they feel comfortable? Why read more into it than is actually there?

Joke's on them. He's a Muslim. You're joking, but the comments about the article are full of people saying that.

They do this with every single thing the President does. this time its because whatever denomination/church he goes to is gonna have 4-8 years of bragging rights. And of course the rednecks going apeshit over him being a ni... muslim and a democr... the antichrist get to claim his church is evil.

*sighs* I know it's SOP whenever a new President takes office, but I still think it's ridiculous how much people make a huge stink about which church the new Pres will attend. Just let the people worship or not worship however they fancy and that's that!
But no, that would be too easy. And sane.

Yeah, to religious people, this is a big deal, we can't have a godless socialist leading the country....but I guess we can have a "moongod socialist"

As am I.
If I was ever president, and someone came to me to ask me what church I would be joining for the next 4 years, I'd be holding a press confrence to let everyone know I will be joining the White House Chaplin every Sunday for prayers as I feel that my religious beliefes are nobodies business but my own.
Ironbite-and every sunday.....me and the chaplin roar through town declaring our alligence to Odin.

I plan to find Jesus shortly before my White House run. Conveniently, he will later be found in a dumpster by the airport with a note reading "just kidding" pinned to his corpse.

Look I've told you again and again...just cause I respawn in 3 seconds doesn't make me Jesus.

I hope they pick an inner-city church. One that runs soup kitchens and blanket drives instead of all going to high tea afterwards.

Well, I never really thought about any President regularly going to church, actually. But I have to say, I think I'm a little surprised they would regularly go to a DC church -- the security risk of being a known place at a consistent time seems immense to me. I would've thought if they were fervent, Presidents would do something rather more private and secure in the White House.

That's part of why a President's choice of church is such a big deal: the Secret Service has to vet the facility to ensure that the President will be safe there and arrange for agents to accompany him each time he goes.

What really gets to me is that "no church" doesn't seem to be a valid option. Sure, the guy's Christian, but not every Christian feels a need to go to church and have someone else tell them how they should feel about God.
