I'm disappointed by this. Video games distract society from actual, important, issues, and I think anything that restricts their production or sale (or that of any other distracting product) is good. Just like books, movies, TV, magazines and the internet, right? Movies, TV, magazines, and the Internet? Absolutely. Books not so much, since reading them helps with literacy. The Internet can help with literacy as well, but I think the time wasted by MMORPGs, pron sites, Facebook, and other such sites outweighs the benefits. Plus you end up with echo chamber communities like RR or FSTDT, which deliberately create animosity between different sections of society. EDIT: I guess some magazines would also count as useful.

If you don't like video games, don't buy them in the first place. Is anyone forcing you to a Gamestop to buy games or systems? No? Then quit your bitching, Shadoom2.

Books not so much, since reading them helps with literacy. You should meet my brother. He could barely read until he started playing video games. I can even show you which game got him interested in reading:

My brothers said I couldn't play Ocarina of Time if I couldn't read. So I taught myself to read.

Can't tell if serious or trolling... If you really believe all that you need help... Guess what? Video games do a lot of good too. They have loads of educational video games now (this is including PC games of course as well as those leap frog type things). But I guess it's all horrible.

I'm sure that there are many video games that are good for society, but the majority of them are not. Just as some television programs and some websites are good, there are some good games. But for every quality documentary or educational game, there are a hundred hysterical Fox 'news' report or pointless addictive button mashers. Overall the mediums are bad for society, so society benefits whenever they are restricted.
I could explain this further, but I'm getting the impression that you'd prefer to bombard me with insults than actually think about what I'm saying.
EDIT: Also I am semi-trolling: I knew the bees would get angry when I kicked their nest, but I'm kicking with my real foot.

But reading Twilight is still reading.

But reading Twilight is still reading. Yes! It's reading! ...reading a book that glorifies stalking, emotional dependency, gender inequality, abuse, being stuck up to fellow humans, attempting suicide and emotional blackmail. And I can't count the number of video games that require you to read blocks of text to be able to progress in the game, so even they will get you to read. Your argument falls flat.

Just because you don't like the medium doesn't mean it doesn't deserve the right to 1st Amendment protections. (And if you know your CEOs this will be a little funnier)

But Twilight is only one series of books. The message of books is always different, but every one of them reinforces the reader's literacy. A book cannot exist without reading.
With video games, having blocks of text is unusual. For every game with novel length text streams, there are many more with one hundred or less sentences. And these days most games use cut scenes and audio as well as text, so the reading is basically optional.
@napoleon the Clown: Multi-national mega-corps don't need protection, it is the people and government that need protection from them.
