First you'll have to find such a being. My state's governor seems to have a spine so far. Granted, because of it this is day 7 of a government shutdown.

You know, that's probably a necessary consequence of standing up to people who seem to be, broadly speaking, practically psychopaths. I wrote him an email thanking him. It is definitely hurting right now, but hopefully it pays off. Especially since the Republicans are up for reelection before he is. Also, the thing the GOP couldn't stand was him wanting to increases taxes a little bit on less than 8000 people.

And yet I imagine those 8000 people represent 85% of the donations to the GOP.

First you'll have to find such a being. There's Weiner. We have photographic proof of his. So this is what Obama meant by compromise....

And yet I imagine those 8000 people represent 85% of the donations to the GOP. Well yeah. It's cheaper to buy the GOP than it is to pay the taxes.

What never ceases to amaze me is how people will repeatedly vote for the people who fuck them over, while snapping at and spitting on the the hand that tries to help them cuz LIBRULZ.
In my Macroeconomics class, when we were studying Public Choice theory, we learned this phenomenon was a result of what is called "rational ignorance." The marginal cost of being more politically informed is perceived to exceed the marginal benefit when everything is all hunky dory. And when things aren't hunky dory, people tend to engage in what is called "punishment voting," which is why the GOP had humongous victories in 2010. Thing is, that "rational ignorance" is not "rational" anymore—not even from an economic point of view where "rational = what benefits me most"—it's just ignorance.

It just confirms that both Democrats and Republicans are entirely dependant on the rich peoples' money.
The entire current campaign funding system in the USA is corrupt and promotes plutocratic politicians. I am afraid that the political climate won't change until campaign funds won't be able to buy the elections (or rather be the prerequisite to winning).
