Today, Julian Assange had to appear back in court for more of the extradition hearings, despite the fact that there is no legal reason to deport him to Sweden, considering that no charges have even been filed. If they do deport him, then there has been a gigantic miscarriage of justice. And if Sweden deports him to the US, then I give up. I'm moving to the moon. He'll be back in court tomorrow, and I wish him the best of luck. www.guardian.co.uk/media/2011/jul/12/julian-assange-extradition-live-coverage

Didn't he get charged with rape? While my gut tells me that this is all political pressure for telling the world some inconvenient secrets about a number of countries, I still feel that if he has been charged with something like rape then justice must see its course. If no actual charges have been laid then it truly is a complete miscarriage of justice.

Apparently, he two-timed a couple women, who later found out about each other. There's some law in Sweden about having sex under false pretenses, even if consent was given at the time. Not rape. So the women are trying to get him charged under that law, because they had sex thinking they were the only one.
At least that's my understanding of it. And no doubt, there's a lot of political pressure, with him being the Wikileaks guy and all...

I thought he was being charged because the condom broke during sex and they claimed that they asked him to stop. Which, unfortunately, cannot be proven.

I honestly don't care what they do to this guy. Unless I get selected to be on the team to go handle the situation.
I think this guy is a waste of air. Who gives a fuck where they send him. lol

I dunno, Joe, I think Assange provides a valuable service. The people have a right to know what their government's doing with their time and their money. Allegations of rape aside, Julian is ensuring governments don't get away with shenanigans without exposing them to the light of day, and to the people to whom such information rightly belongs.

If no actual charges have been laid then it truly is a complete miscarriage of justice. No charges have actually been pressed, that's the thing. Everything is all alleged. Neither Britain nor Sweden is North Korea, and there's supposed to be a standard of "innocent until proven guilty." The allegations against him basically boil down to "the condom broke and Assange was kind of a douchebag to the accusers." And last time I checked, we don't extradite or imprison people for being douchebags, otherwise there'd be a lot less people out roaming around. The whole thing is very dishonorable, and I feel like the accusers are taking advantage of the legal confusion to get revenge on Assange, who had a relationship with each of them at the same time (without the other's knowledge). I read somewhere that they didn't decide to go forward with the accusations until they realized that he had slept with both of them.
