He's saying that a balanced budget amendment can't be part of this debate. He implied that he would support one, but is openly saying that the Republicans should stop holding out for it. And promising it to the people when it's clearly nto an option.

I think the country would have been far better off with ol' John than with basically any other Republican candidate then or now. Next to some of the nutters who currently have their hats in the ring, McCain would be a god send.

Funny thing. I there was a thread about this in another forum. (it's about medieval re-enactent. but there is a politics section)
Many of the commentators were angry at McCain. One mentioned that he threw up a bit when he had to vote for him. He said it was a protest vote against Obama since he is even worse.
Then some mentioned how they only voted McCain because of Palin...
I really should learn to stay away from the politics section there. It seems I can't agree with 90% of those people about anything that happened after the reneissance.
