This is somewhat old news, but I haven't seen a thread on it. American Atheists has filed a lawsuit to enjoin the placement of the 9/11 cross in the state-funded 9/11 history museum. www.christianpost.com/news/congressman-atheists-lawsuit-against-9-11-cross-sad-misguided-52940/Morons. It's a history museum. The cross is part of the historical record of the American people's reactions in the aftermath of 9/11. It is not being displayed in any memorial, but in a context that highlights its historical significance, not one that would advance any particular religion.

It is not being displayed in any memorial, but in a context that highlights its historical significance, not one that would advance any particular religion. Which is most likely how the court will rule on the issue.

*facepalms*
Ya know, there's this thing called... "picking your battles wisely."
This is not picking your battles wisely. This is picking your battles foolishly.
I completely understand being offended by Christian favoritism, I really do. But to want to basically excise the religious symbol from pretty much everything?
Quite a bit hypocritical, if you think about it.
Ugh.

I really don't see the problem with displaying it for historic reasons. As long as the focus remains on its cultural impact, it rightfully deserves its place in the memorial.
This whole thing is petty as hell.

Uh... didn't they find two beams shaped in a cross in the aftermath?
I see no issue with this at all.

@mrs. Antichrist: It's not even in the memorial, it's in the adjacent museum which will house a collection of artifacts. One of these exhibits will be to show people's reactions in the aftermath of 9/11.

Do the people who put up the memorial have any idea how skyscrapers are built? It would be a miracle if there wasn't a single cross-shaped pair of steel beams in the wreckage.

It was more a case of this particular "cross" being found in the wreckage and (as I understand) stood upright by some rescue workers as ad-hoc memorial.
