we have GOT to stop rewarding people (the Duggars, John and Kate, and the rest of their ilk) for breeding irresponsibly. I think that is unfair to Jon and Kate, they were just trying to get a third child and ended up with eight. Their brood isn't intentional like the Duggars. (Is a fanboy who saw Kate Gosselin talk in person) See, this is my deal with the Gosselins. They obviously weren't terminally infertile because they had twins the first time, yet they figured they had to still go to the same lengths and beyond to have one more. Secondly, they could have adopted. They were offered a child to adopt. To quote them, God told them not to give an unwanted child a loving home. I hate to play the "they want babies that look like them" card, but the baby was half black. And now that people are starting to say "Hey, that was kind of a dick move", they're not considering adopting a ninth child, but from Korea so it resembles the others. Despite the fact that they've openly admitted that if TLC didn't continue sponsoring them, they were screwed. I hope the adoption agency laughs in their face.

I also have a problem with their trip to El Salvador in which they totally showed their lack of knowledge of anything outside the United States, with such gems as "the richest people there are the equivalent of the poorest back home" (little does he know that El Salvador switched to the US dollar about 8 years ago and there ARE plenty of rich people there. The Duggars make me sick. I haven't seen that episode, but it sounds like a gem. Putting these assholes in the middle of El Salvador sounds like pure comedic gold, just like that diamond mining episode. I saw the Xtian Film Festival episode, where they were all drooling over seeing Kirk Cameron (their faaaaaave actor evvvvverrrr!!! OMG!!1). It was pathetic how they probably received more media attention and paparazzi than the actual film festival itself. If they claim to be advocating for more "family friendly films" then maybe they should direct all that media attention and camera whoring more towards the filmmakers and stars of such films. I'm all for independent movies and small time directors, Xtian or otherwise, but not when those media whores are there. Fuck no.

Yeah, I don;t like the fact that a) babies are simply passed to the older daughters to be raised and b) claiming to be "debt free" when it is no accomplishment of their own, without the discovery channel they wouldn't be able to support all those kids.
But I feel that what they are doing is wrong for another reason, when the hell do they have time to hang out and enjoy being parents? I'm not saying people should have children for the fun of it, but there should be moments when you can enjoy being with the family and having to plan and budget everything to the nth degree and having to figure out the logistics of who goes where at what time is stressful. But I;m guessing that Jim-Bob doesn't have to work now that the Discovery Channel is footing the bill and sending them on all sorts of fun trips?
Luckily, I'm oversees and so not even tempted to watch the show.

I think Jim-Bob (god, I love the redneck-ness of that name, don't you guys?) had a used-car dealership or something like that, and now he's in real-estate. He used to be a state legislator for Arkansas as well. I looked it up on the Almighty Wiki. But still, that's hardly enough money to raise eighteen kids. I'm sure they'd have an easier time with their bills, and need less help from Discovery, TLC, and donations if some of the older kids worked to help support the family, but GIRLS aren't supposed to work outside the home--plus, it's pretty sad when teenagers have to work not because they want spending money, but because they have to help foot the bill for their PARENT'S irresponsible decisions.
I'm also endlessly amused by the oldest son and his marriage--the first time they kissed was when they got MARRIED. They were never ALONE together, and that doesn't sound like a good basis for a marriage to me. I bet they had a FUN wedding night. *eyeroll*

Fewer Duggars? Hmm, maybe creationism's not so bad after all...

Hahah, I wonder if they even KNOW how reproduction works. I'll bet they're going to be complaining to their parents in a couple of years about the fact that God hasn't sent them a baby yet. "We've prayed every night, but we're still not pregnant yet! D:" "Uh...well...you know you actually have to...er..." "What? *innocent look*" "...you know what, never mind."

Here's my take on the Duggars. Thinking about Michelle makes me cringe in pain, and I really, really pity the kids. I like kids, and for the most part, they like me. I adore my cute baby cousins (well, four years and sixteen months) and like to spend time with them. I baby-sit sometimes, too. But 18? Seriously? I couldn't take that! I can barely handle it when my cousins are in full hyper mode. Munchkins are a lot of work. 18 of them is just crazy.
As for Jon and Kate, they don't bother me. They seem like a nice enough family, and while they might be religious, they don't come across to me as in-your-face raving fundies like the Duggars do. I can understand why some people might dislike them, but I actually kind of like that show...

I've heard stories of real life religious kids who didn't "know where to put it" during sex and so didn't have sex for a few weeks after they got married. It's really sad/hilarious...

It's really sad/hilarious... Solution: Give them a sex ed book only including anal sex. Their procreation will be limited to dribble babies.

What I don't understand is how you can go through your childhood without touching yourself at least once and being like... NEAT! The religious families frown on their children touching themselves--they discourage it from a very young age, and the more religious ones will actually punish their kids if they find out they ARE doing it. They're often raised to think that sexual pleasure is inherently dirty and disgusting, and even if they DO masturbate they feel so horribly guilty about it that it hardly seems worth it. Not ALL religious families are like this, but really super-religious ones do, indeed, keep their children THAT ignorant about sex and sexuality. It takes a certain degree of overzealous control, but it IS possible and they DO do it.

TRAINWRECK: if I ever started watching it, I would not be able to stop.
I just hope Nadya Suleman never gets her own show.

For me, it is like a trainwreck because if I find an episode that's on, I can't help but watch it. I've seen both the diamond mining and film festival ones, as well as the wedding special.
