I was on Gaia about 10 mins. ago, on an Atheist thread. Someone said that Atheism was a religion, I said that it wasn't, but it was the non belief in no gods. Another person replied to me:
"Well technically it's a rejection of theism, not a condemnation of theism as incorrect."
I agreed, but then asked, "However, if you reject something isn't that because you think it's incorrect? You wouldn't reject something you think is true, right?"
He then directed me to a YouTube video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNDZb0KtJDk
It's a video by QualiaSoup, and they've made others, so I looked at them too. I then wrote a response, which I will now share with you:
Just finished watching the clip, and a few others made by the same person. Very well
made.
They also got me thinking: All my life, from 5 years up, through Christianity and now
Paganism, I've been blindly following things; believing in extraordinary things, without
thinking about other possible options. I love the supernatural, but I guess I didn't take
into account the ordinary events behind the scenes.
Example: I read my Tarot cards one day, about a year ago. They said I would get money,
but there would be turmoil. That happened, and my supernatural beliefs grew stronger. Now
I realize that it was just me projecting onto the cards. Whenever I got money, even
before this event, there was always turmoil, as I have a habit of living way
above my means.
There are other instances, like when I was 13, and I thought I had "predicted" someone's
death, when really I just saw the signs of unchecked depression in this person and knew
what the result would be.
I've always depended on the Gods because that's all I knew, and I think it's time I let
them go. For now, at least. I was blind to the other options and reasons as to how
everything we know of came to be. I plan to think more openly and logically (*gasp!* The
'L' word!) about my view points, from now on.
So, now I'm moving forward with a clearer (and naturally thinking) mind.
