The bland, choppy writing reads like he was trying to emulate Hemingway's elegant simplicity but failed miserably. Either way, combining that with Shakespeare, no matter how talented a writer you are, is automatic fail.
Also:
...lol, just lol. This "fanfic" is obviously very AU. What happened to you, Orson?

My personal theory is that he's gay in denial. Severely in denial. I know it's a stereotype, but when you have a guy describing heterosexual marriage as an intersexual swamp...

Yeah, that on top of the blatant homoeroticism in some of his later work, even after he went ballistic.
Automatically calling all homophobes "self-loathing homosexuals" is cliche at best and disingenuous at worst, but damn, there's just no way one can't consider the possibility in this case.

Especially considering things like this: Men, after all, know what men like far better than women do; women know how women think and feel far better than men do. But a man and a woman come together as strangers and their natural impulses remain at odds throughout their lives, requiring constant compromise, suppression of natural desires, and an unending effort to learn how to get through the intersexual swamp.

Indeed.
Just as a brief question to the fully straight people here: do you guys ever feel like you're suppressing natural desires when you have sex?

I quite like the term intersexual swamp.
Make a good band name.

This is why you don't let fanfiction writers publish novels. This is absolutely terrible. It may not have as many spelling errors as My Immortal, but it's born of the same disgusting mindset. Fans of classical literature everywhere will curse Orson's name.

Fans of classical literature everywhere will curse Orson's name. I kind of wanted to write a novel one day, and I got my start writing fanfiction. I will say this, though- my stuff is a lot better than this, and I'm not just saying that because I wrote it.

Long term exposure to Mormonism is known to have deleterious effects on one's mind.

Flatter than a pancake but utterly tasteless. Orson should be tossed into a hot cauldron on a live performance of Macbeth at the Globe theater for crimes against literature!
