So I was listening to NPR this morning and heard some senators mildly complaining that they are in session today trying to sort out the stupid snafu over FEMA funding caused by the Republicans when normally they would be in recess for the Jewish holidays.
Um....what? Excuse me? In recess for the Jewish holidays? Are you fucking kidding me?
The Religious breakdown of the current US Senate:
24 Catholics 15 Presbyterians 13 Jews 11 Methodists 10 Baptists 6 Mormons 4 Episcopalians 4 Lutherans 2 non-denominational Protestant 2 United Church of Christ 1 Christian Reformed Church 1 Church of Christ 1 Church of God 1 Eastern Orthodox 1 McLean Bible Church 1 Unitarian 1 refuses to commit to any specific church (Go Sen. Udall!)
Why in the name of Thor's Holy Left Testicle do these assholes give themselves the Jewish holidays off? I could see excusing the 13 Senators who are actually Jewish (even though the majority of them are non-practicing), but you other lazyass 83% had damn well better be in Washington doing your freaking jobs.
This just disgusted me. Taking the friggin' Jewish holidays off. Sigh. Next they'll want Ramadan off.

I see this breakdown and I think, "People actually have the balls to say that Christians aren't represented by our government?"

Well, by that breakdown the fundies would consider the Senate to be between 21% and 45% non-Christian depending on how pissy they were being about the Catholics.

To balance things they are considering taking off saints' holy days.

Well its pretty simple really. These people don't want to do their jobs, they sure as hell didn't become senators because they liked sitting in senate meetings. They would take off Satanic holidays if they could get away with it. Why work and makes peoples lives better when there are convenient excuses not to?

I see this breakdown and I think, "People actually have the balls to say that Christians aren't represented by our government?" They'd have to submit to the exact same brand of crazy as whoever spouts that off to count as "true Christians". Everyone else is a phony.

I'm sure that there's a "holy day" for every day of the year for every human religion in existence. Hell, I'm surprised these lazy fuckers haven't tried to claim Festivult (DDO's equivalent of Christmas) as a real holiday so they could get a break from "all this hard work."
Paper-pushing, pencil-chewing, henpecked sissies.

What the hell? The ONLY holiday I get off is Christmas. I'm not even allowed to call in sick on the other holidays unless I can bring in a doctor's excuse when I come back in.

There are some people that don't even get Christmas and Easter off.

To balance things they are considering taking off saints' holy days. Isn't that 90% of the year? What the hell? The ONLY holiday I get off is Christmas. I'm not even allowed to call in sick on the other holidays unless I can bring in a doctor's excuse when I come back in. You better damn well get extra pay for the holidays you do work, or else your company is in violation of federal law. Oh please, since when did the LAW ever stop companies from shafting low-level workers? After all, it's not like they can afford decent lawyers...

I'd ask if the whole "separation of church and state" would be a good way to get them all to quit bitching and get to work, but that little detail doesn't seem to mean anything these days.
