We had a King once. So I guess our monarch is Queen Lisa Marie I.

What you're suggesting is similar to the system in Ireland. The head of state is the Uachtarán, an elected president in a mainly symbolic role with the Taoiseach, or prime minister, as head of the actual government. It's not strictly speaking an apolitical role because a candidate needs to be backed by elected officials.

Even if a Monarchy of any kind had the power to "unify" the USA, which I highly doubt, where would you get one from? As far as i know there is no nobility in the states... What you could "get" is a kind of impartial, elected, representative figure like the German "Bundespräsident" (Who is nominally the Head of state but rather powerless). HRH Elizabeth II is the rightful monarch of the United States. There is even a (small) American monarchist party that supports making that official.

Hell no. This would go against everything we stand for as a country. Why should we just designate a certain family to be entitled to all sorts of wealth and permanent celebrity status when they've done nothing to earn it? Just saying, this would be a very bad idea.

King George III ceded all claim to the US in the Second Treaty of Paris. She has no more claim to the United States than she does Venezuela.

I'm not exactly what you would call a royalist, but there is one distinction that puts them ahead of any political class in the developed world.
Of the surviving members of the british royal family, I think there's 4 that have served on active military service during wartime, plus a few that are servicemen but haven't seen frontline duty.
Compare that to all the politicians who managed to scam their way out of the draft in vietnam and suchlike. There's rampant self-interest and then there's rampant self-interest tempered by serving those you claim to represent.

I have neither the time nor the interest to serve as king, so just forget it.

Wouldn't work. Here, it's everyone for themselves. And if there's no real power involved, forget it. Plus, someone else already mentioned Paris Hilton and the Kardashians and etc. We had a King once. So I guess our monarch is Queen Lisa Marie I. Well played, sir. ;D

You're really gonna bring up people that every reasonable person hates? Geez, will you people go to any lengths to make Americans look bad? When was the last time these aforementioned were treated like royalty? And don't even think about saying that only America has obnoxiously frivolous celebrities. That is obviously false and you know it.

The only unifying power the monarchy has here in Canada is to bring us together in a collective "Who gives a shit?" whenever one of them gets married. Geez, will you people go to any lengths to make Americans look bad? Who is "You People"? I agree that LHM's comparison is rather off, but it's not like everyone here (on the forums, in the world outside the US, etc.) is anti-American...

Yes I agree we need a monarch. I nominate myself, crow myself and kill anyone who says otherwise.
Ironbite-there, problem solved.

Just saying, this would be a very bad idea. ...Because I'd expect a "royal family" to actually do work, too? I mean, there's a reason I brought up Britain, and that's because much of the royal family has actually done things like work in the military and stuff like that.
