As a Plural Spiritualist practicing aspects of Islam I am glad that you showed this website here. At least it's one site to avoid as they won't understand where I am coming from spiritually. I cannot stand fundies in any religion. Glad to hear that King Abdullah overturned the punishment. Maybe the Sauds are realizing that they have to loosen up a bit? ETA: After browsing that site, I think that this is the Islamic equivalent to RR.

In some ways, RR is worse because it's implicit rather than explicit.

I'd say that Free Republic is a lot closer to Islamic Awakening than RR ever was. Honestly, RR is downright loving compared to this.

Watch as Islamic Awakening provides ammunition for the people who say that all Muslims are violent misogynistic sociopaths permanently stuck in the Dark Ages...

Please. We don't need an online message board to know that. We just look at rulings like this. BTW, FYI this isn't the religion's problem but the culture. Yeah we bitch about Islam but really its the idiots from the tribal homelands that cause this.
ironbite-its...fascinating really

Watch as Islamic Awakening provides ammunition for the people who say that all Muslims are violent misogynistic sociopaths permanently stuck in the Dark Ages... They're already aware. They just point out all the hypocrisy about western society and act like that means they're immune from criticism from not just "kafirs" (as they on the forum call us), but also other Muslims. They're of the mind that Muslims that criticize things like this aren't real Muslims, and are against "true Islam." One poster even told another moderate one that Muslims should never apologize to "kafirs," and ragged on him and other Muslims like him for being harsher on "their Muslim brothers and sisters" than with kafirs. In other words, no Muslim should ever be critical of anything that could be considered Islamic, or anything other members of the religion do (unless, of course, it's not something they agree with), never mind the fact that this is exactly the kind of attitude that breeds corruption. Of course, the posters there who think like that probably don't give a shit about how they make Islam look to others, since they seem to view "kafirs" with callousness and derisiveness.

Oh God, they're not only worse than RR, they're worse than Free Republic. I suppose it has never occurred to them that the more obnoxious they act the less converts they'll get. Of course, judging from their behavior, they probably want there to be as few people in Paradise as possible.

It's still subjective, even if I completely disagree with the law. Whether something is morally right or wrong isn't an objective fact, it's a matter of human perception. A better way to look at it is whether or not there's an objective basis for the law. If not, then in the framework of law, it is objectively unjust. Because law is, theoretically, protecting human rights. As someone pointed out on the forum, why do Islamic Fundies assume that any amount of women's rights automatically leads to promiscuity & nudity & whatnot? Also, why do they assume I care about the nudity of a woman I'll never meet?

Bear in mind their definition of "nudity" is rather broader than ours; by their reasoning, most feminists are indecently dressed. Reminds me of the old joke: a man walks into a Muslim strip club and yells out "c'mon love, show us your face!" Another gem from the thread:

Another gem from the thread: And thus we have the major side effect of "purity" obsession and forced suppression and hatred of sex: The sexualization of damn near everything, to the the point where anything can draw the mind to sex, even when it shouldn't. It gets to the point where they see sex everywhere and in everything a woman does, but of course the fault isn't with the man, it's the woman.
