Well there are two ways to answer this question: opinions that are unpopular in the general public, or opinions that are unpopular here?
As for opinions that may be considered unpopular here:
*anti-polygamist marriage *anti-incestuous marriage *anti-anonymous sperm donation *anti-globalization (including anti-European Union and anti-Euro) *pro-Electoral College *pro-two party system *pro-Daylight Saving Time

I'm very much pro-immigration control. Only let in people when it suits us as a nation, not for any other reason. Basically, citizens are the only ones the government has any sort of social responsibility towards. On that note:
The fact that the government sends out foreign aid when there are plenty of social problems like homelessness and the like at home quite frankly sickens me.
I'm pro-death penalty.
I'm pro-nuclear power.
Also, pro-nuclear armament for Australia. It makes for a phenomenal deterrent.
I think not only should religious organisation like churches and mosques and the like be taxed, but classified as a demerit service and thus taxed as much as cigarettes and alcohol.
I support legalising all drugs. Not only would they be safer due to minimum quality regulations, they'd also go from a tax drain to tax source as soon as legal sources become available.
I believe the current system of very cheap tertiary education with interest-free student loans is good, but highly employable degrees should be free and should come with tax credits for skills that are in short supply.
I'm sure there's more, but I can't think of them right now. Enjoy!

Pedophilia, as long as it is not acted on, is not immoral and should be treated just like any other mental disorder. People who are unfortunate enough to have it should be treated with sympathy, not hatred. Being told by absolutely everyone that you are the lowest form of human life imaginable is definitely not going to encourage anyone to seek help. Define "acted on." Obviously actually molesting a kid, but what about having pics or videos of kiddie porn? I believe that voting weight should be based on intelligence and political knowledge. While I agree on the surface, this gets very close to the idea of literacy tests that were used for about a century to keep blacks from voting. How much political knowledge is required? I'd take it one farther. Stupidity is a crime punishable by death. (Note I said "stupidity," not "ignorance." Ignorance can be fixed.) Third, if anyone is taking money from ANY lobbyist, pro or con, they need to be sacked. Immediately. They're there to serve the people's interests, not corporations. Yup. Reverse Citizens United and stritly enforce donation limits. Or implement public funding for all national-level elections. Anyone who does not understand the science behind climate change, evolution, or any other heated topic cannot be allowed to discuss the issue in public forum, and will be made to look like the fool they are on all relevant news outlets. We can all dream... I would love to see the idiots called out on national TV with their ignorance and lies. Hear, hear! And add on hypocrits will also be forced to resign. That includes people who wanted to forgive someone of their own political party, but called for the head of someone from the other party who did something a lot more minor. (For example, David Vitter v. Anthoney Weiner.) I thought about this the other day, but there is a huge weakness. If someone without indedendent income wanted to run for office, they would know this and know their income could be cut at any time. That would leave only the independently wealthy who could run, because a loss of their income from politics wouldn't hurt them. Also, the US Constitution says Congress's pay cannot be cut. Game stores should be penalized for selling to minors and to selling to parents who do not watch after their kids. How is a game store supposed to know a parent doesn't watch their kid? If an adult goes in an buys an M-rated game, saying nothing about a kid, how is the clerk supposed to know the game isn't for the adult? OK, for my own... I believe there should be a parenting test. If you cannot pass, you are not authorized to breed. I believe cops should be able to pull over a person who is driving stupid, but within the law. (For example, driving way under the speed limit on the interstate when weather conditions do not mandate slow speed.)

Because if the kid is right there and the parent says 'Oh, I don't care. Whatever Timmy wants Timmy gets' then it becomes a little obvious?
And if the parent drives back to the store angrily stating that the game was horrible and terrible and why did the clerk let him buy it for Timmy he should get the equivalent of a stupidity tax for not reading up on the game for Timmy.

I thought of more.
On paedophilia. I largely agree with the others. Unless they act on it in a way that harms anyone, just treat it like any other fetish.
The rating system for everything (movies, games, TV shows, whatever) should be reduced to recommendations only and the ages should be dropped by a few years each. Basically if you reach age 14 at the very most and still can't tell the difference between fantasy and reality, let's just say violent/sexy movies/games/whatever aren't the problem here.
The penal system should be focused purely on rehabilitation rather than punishment, and minors and adults should be treated exactly the same under it.
Cut back the process for obtaining a drivers license by at least two years. Statistically speaking countries like America (where it doesn't take nearly as long to go from unlicensed to fully licensed) don't have significantly higher accident rates for young drivers than Australia so it's safe to say the current system of having to spend two years on a probationary license and one on a learners permit is just unnecessary and a waste of everyone's time.

Companies that outsource (and move HQ to tax havens) should be heavily taxed, deemed unpatriotic, and/or their boards of directors should loose their citizenship.
When rich corporate 1%ers get caught in illegal activities, their entire assets should be converted over to the state, just like poor peoples' who get caught selling a dime-bag of weed. Confiscating each rich bastard's money load when they commit crimes would help pay off the debt and provide incentive for those fuckers to play by the rules like the rest of us.
Also, initiate complete pro-death policies -blow up the entire universe to end all pain, suffering, and episodes of She's The Sheriff ...everything!

While I agree on the surface, this gets very close to the idea of literacy tests that were used for about a century to keep blacks from voting. How much political knowledge is required? I think everyone should get a vote for being alive. Then one can win extra votes by performance in suitable examinations. Say one per every I.Q. point over 100 points. (I know there are problems with the I.Q. tests and ratings as used today, this is just a f'rinstance) and then further votes available based on education in certain subjects, like economics, business studies, politics, history, medicine, things like that. No, I don't have all the specifics worked out, but it absolutely shits me to tears that people who can't name the sitting treasurer, or who think the Queen is the Queen of the UN (actual quote!) have a vote that carries as much weight as mine. Yes, I am fully aware that what I am proposing would mean there were many people who get more votes than I do. I would hope that they would be more qualified to make an even more informed decision on how to cast them than I would. I'm not interested in killing people, just realistic measures to make our descendents better off. Stupid people can't help it. I'd also like to see a current senior first aid certificate be a mandatory requirement for holding a licence, as well as the ability to safely change a tire be part of the licencing test.

Owning and maintaining a RIFLE should be a RESPONSIBILITY not a right, Every citizen should be required to purchase a single shot rifle at the age of 16, and spend the first summer after their 16th birthday undergoing 2-3 weeks of basic military training. Those who cannot afford a rifle shall recieve financial assistance, and their future wages will be garnisheed to cover the cost. Those who are physicaly incapable of undergoing training should be exempted, but those REFUSING should be taxed.
(by rifle I mean a manualy loaded firearm with a full length wooden stock, and a barrel not less than 21 inches long)

Also, pro-nuclear armament for Australia. It makes for a phenomenal deterrent. Only if we have something that will make the nuclear weapon explode somewhere else other than Australia. Not much of a deterrent if we are just going to blow up ourselves.

Not much of a deterrent if we are just going to blow up ourselves. It seems to work just fine for North Korea. But seriously, I assumed that was a given. ICBMs preferably, as the range, cost and the fact that you don't have to risk a bomber crew make them far superior to planes.

More nuclear power stations, they're great. Homeothapists should be taken out back and shot. Solve The Troubles once and for all by buying Ireland legally. Should be able to get it for a knock down price. Elections to be decided by Battle Royale. Abolish the rating system or, at the very least, tone it down. End tax exempt status for religious institutions and proceed to tax the fuck out of them. More science funding dammit.
And to steal an idea from LHM's post; Her Majesty the Queen to be made Queen of the UN.

lighthorseman, one of the problems is that having a high IQ doesn't necessarily mean you can't be stupid in one or two areas. Some very intelligent people are in fundamentalist Christianity. Now then, on the topic... Just one: I don't mind male circumcision.

This is my first post, and I think this is an apropriate thread apropriate to start. Owning and maintaining a RIFLE should be a RESPONSIBILITY not a right, Every citizen should be required to purchase a single shot rifle at the age of 16, and spend the first summer after their 16th birthday undergoing 2-3 weeks of basic military training. Those who are physicaly incapable of undergoing training should be exempted, but those REFUSING should be taxed. (by rifle I mean a manualy loaded firearm with a full length wooden stock, and a barrel not less than 21 inches long) Which is kind of funy, since I think people who own a gun should be taxed, and buy firearm insurance. Turn prisons into sweat shops. Have the criminals sew and sweat to make up for the food and space they take up. I think this takes care of our illegal immigrant problem. Create sodomy laws. Yes, it has been proven that oral/anal sex has a higher transmission rate of STIs and condoms are less effective. The government shouldn't snoop in people's houses and only charge people if they confess, or if there are witnesses Sex education should start in 1st grade. Children should be able to opt out of puberty by taking pills/injections Replace VAWA with VAPA. No seriously, at least 40% of DV victims are male. This should be common sense. Legalize prostitution, tax the hell out of it, and make raping prostitutes equivilant of shoplifting. Yeah, I said it. Make everyone a mandatory organ donor if they die. I don't care if they are a JW. Male toplessness is indecent exposure Helmet laws and seatbelt laws exist to ensure I don't see someone's brain splatter on the highway
